By Graham "GSM" Matthews After getting done watching “See No Evil 2” (which was excellent by the way) on Saturday night, I left to get food to bring it back to my dorm before watching disc 2 of my Hell in a Cell DVD set. Mind you, the place where I normally get my food from is on the other side of campus and a 20 minute walk from my place and back, and this is around 11 at night, so I was walking through a swarm of kids who reeked of alcohol and weed. And I knew I never, ever wanted to be one of those people. Now, I’ve said before that while I’m straightedge, I’m all for people doing what they want to do and doing what makes them happy. I’m not anti-alcohol or anti-drugs, it’s just something I don’t particularly care for or something I plan on doing, ever. But I think there’s a perception among people my age and others that you HAVE to be drinking or doing drugs to have fun, which couldn’t be any farther from the truth. Putting aside the effects excess use of that stuff has on your body, if it’s what makes you happy and you’re not hurting or bothering anyone, great! Do what you want.
But don’t feel pressured by people you know or just people in general to drink because it’s what makes for a “fun time.” If your definition of a fun time is sitting in and watching the WWE Network (like yours truly) or doing something with friends that doesn’t involve drinking or smoking, then do what you want! To me, there’s nothing more important than being happy and healthy, and to be happy, you have to have some fun. But live life by YOUR definition of what “fun” is, not other people’s. You are your own amazingly unique person, and everybody has a choice. Speak up when you feel something someone is doing isn’t right, use your voice! |
