By Graham "GSM" Matthews It's amazing to think it's been five years to the day since I started Next Era Wrestling. I had been running my own wrestling website entitled AJM for over two years by November 2010, but at that point in time, AJM was a fantasy wrestling organization I ran with my brother. AJM, which was renamed to Next Era Wrestling in early 2010, was never anything I ever considered doing professionally but rather merely for fun, so I recorded the results of the matches we did on the website. I moved the site over from Freewebs (I believe it's been shortened to just Webs now) to Weebly that November, which gave birth to the website you're reading now. As noted, Next Era Wrestling five years ago wasn't close to what it has since become. It consisted of nothing more than match results from the aforementioned fantasy wrestling organization, which you can now find in the Archive section of the site. It wasn't until mid-2011 that I started writing reviews of Raw, SmackDown and the WWE pay-per-views exclusively for the site and now, no less than a dozen articles are up per week. I can go on and on about how far Next Era Wrestling has come in the last five years, but that's what the About section is for. Instead, I wanted to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has been a part of the site's success since 2010. Never did I think running this website would be more than just a hobby, but it's becoming something I've actually put money into! That alone was a major step forward, and as a result, Next Era Wrestling has been able to offer audio, a search box and even has its own domain as of this past March.
My good friend RJ Marceau has been a big part of the website for the past year in contributing work to the Columnist Corner, but there are countless others over the years who have helped introduce Next Era Wrestling to a wider audience. A huge thanks also goes out to those fellow pro wrestling websites that have helped advertise and promote Next Era Wrestling. The amount of traffic the website garners in one day is up almost 20 times from what it was in 2011. That's thanks to you guys! Looking forward to the future, I'm excited for the evolution of Next Era Wrestling and where it will go from here. Maybe more wrestling shows will be covered. Maybe more opinion pieces will be posted. Maybe more blogs, wrestling-related and otherwise, will debut. Who knows? I certainly couldn't have predicted the success the site would had, and I can't even imagine where it will be another five years down the line. Again, folks, thanks so much for your support of the site and helping it reach this monumental milestone of five years. It's greatly appreciated! |
