By Graham "GSM" Matthews In this new blog entitled Director's Cut, I'll be reviewing movies I've recently seen, my favorites movies of all time, or movies I feel like reviewing. Of all the movies coming out this summer that I wanted to see, "The Lone Ranger" was not atop my list. In fact, I only went to the theaters to go see it simply because my little brother wanted to, so I figured I'd tag along. I love going to the movies, so I didn't pass up the chance to attend. Much to my surprise, the movie was actually better than expected. Remember, this movie was made by Disney, so I didn't have high hopes going into it. I don't mean to knock on Disney, though, as I used to be a huge Disney fan when I was younger. I've grown out of it now, but they do tend to make a good movie every once in awhile. "John Carter", another Disney film, came out last year. That movie was fine for what it was, but it bombed in the box office, so I figured this would be the same. Although "The Lone Ranger" has been deemed a "flop" by some critics since opening in theaters last week, I found the film to be quite enjoyable. If you're a fan of cowboys and the wild west, then this movie is for you. Another key aspect of this film is how it tells the tale of The Lone Ranger and how it came to be. Call me clueless, but I was completely unaware of the story prior to seeing this movie, so I found it to be pretty cool. Despite being a Disney movie, it features quite a bit of killing and gruesome parts, so if you're not into that kind of thing, then you've been warned. In all honesty, Johnny Depp was by far the highlight of this movie in his role of Tanto. There are some humorous scenes scattered throughout the movie, mostly featuring him. "The Lone Ranger" is action-packed and features a little bit of everything. It wasn't one of the best movies I've seen recently, but I will say that it exceeded my expectations and proved to be a fun film.
Should you see this movie? Yes. |
