By RJ Marceau When you look at the card for Sunday's Royal Rumble in each match features new or newer wrestlers or stables. The WWE in the past 5 years has failed to make new stars and resort back to John Cena, Randy Orton, HHH and Brock Lesnar. The WWE gives these new superstars start and stop pushes that make it hard for fans to invest in them. Looking at all the matches on this card there are future stars or a star in each match.

By Graham "GSM" Matthews Jack Swagger def. Fandango Uh, okay then? Both of these guys are babyfaces, or at least supposed to be babyfaces, so I was confused by the character dynamic here. Then again, they might have just wanted to switch it up because they've done Swagger vs. Bo Dallas and Adam Rose a million times before. In that case, I appreciate them giving us something different for a change. If I had to guess, Fandango was the intended heel here, but he didn't make it that clear. At any rate, they had a well-wrestled match with a nice finishing sequence. I don't expect to see either guy in the Royal Rumble match, but this was a fine outing from them. Dolph Ziggler def. The Miz It's somewhat sad when you think about it that these two Ohio natives were relegated to working Superstars instead of wrestling on Raw in (on near?) their hometown. By the way, why is WWE still billing Ziggler from Hollywood, Florida? I thought they had changed that by now. As expected, they had a pretty entertaining match, especially by Superstars standards. They've always had great chemistry and are almost incapable of having a bad match together, so this was no exception. By Jared "JJF" Jackson-Ferrans For the majority of both his indy and WWE runs, Bryan Danielson, perhaps better known as Daniel Bryan, was arguably one of the best wrestlers in the world. His efforts were validated by the Wrestling Observer, whose fans consistantly voted him into a stranglehold over the Best Technical Wrestler award, from 2005 until 2013, and in all likelyhood, this would have continued. However, with career threatening injuries limiting him to only a handful of matches in both 2014 and 2015, the reign of the "American Dragon" was coming to an end, and technical wrestling was in desperate need of someone to step up to fill the void. Thankfully, 2014 began the emergence of one of the indy's best and brightest, whose rise only continued in 2015 and earned the votes for Best Technical Wrestler in both years. Ladies and Gentlemen, Zack Sabre Jr. By Graham "GSM" Matthews WWE Tag Team Champions The New Day Interrupted Chris Jericho So, WWE advertised 'Miz TV' for this week's SmackDown on Raw, but not Chris Jericho making his first appearance on the blue brand in over a year? All right then. I'm sure fans won't be happy about Jericho spewing the "tooty fruity booty" line at New Day again, but mark my words: he'll be turning heel sooner rather than later. That isn't much of a bold prediction, I know, but keep that in mind every time you cringe when he says that. I was hoping he would mix it up with New Day in the ring before the Royal Rumble, but I guess they're saving his in-ring return for the Rumble match, which is smart. If nothing else, this set up the subsequent tag team match nicely. Dolph Ziggler and The Usos def. WWE Tag Team Champions The New Day While Ziggler is colder than ice at the moment, he can always be counted on for a quality in-ring performance and he gelled well with The Usos here. Anyone who is already bored by The Usos vs. The New Day must remember the feud only started a month or two ago. I don't blame you if you're bored by it, but it's the freshest thing we have in the tag team division at the moment and should hold us over until a new team comes up from NXT. Anyway, this was a fun six-man tag and The Usos winning made up for Jey Uso's singles loss from Raw this week. |
