The Nightmare Sisters def. Big & Lil' Swole in a Semifinal Match
I'm sorry but I find The Nightmare Sisters to be completely terrible. This was marginally better than most of the matches they've had up to this point, but that was largely because of their opponents: the talented duo of Big & Lil' Swole. There is something seriously wrong in AEW if they don't sign Nicole Savoy to a contract soon, especially given the current state of their women's division. They did well here and looked good in defeat. You had to know The Nightmare Sisters were making it to the finals with the way they've been built up over the last month or so.
Big and Lil' Swole def. Leva Bates and Rache Chanel in a Quarterfinal Match
Lil' Swole was obviously Nicole Savoy, who took part in the inaugural Mae Young Classic three years ago and has competed in Ring of Honor in recent years. From what I've seen, she's one of the best women's wrestlers out there right now not signed by a major promotion. I'm all for her and Swole forming a partnership in the AEW women's division full-time. I unsurprisingly wasn't impressed by either Bates or Chanel, but Big and Lil' Swole made this thing passable. They were the right team to advance.
The Nightmare Sisters def. Mel and Penelope Ford in a Quarterfinal Match
I've said it before and I'll say it again: I couldn't care less about this ongoing angle with Allie, Brandi Rhodes and the rest of The Nightmare Family. Allie is clearly going to turn on Brandi at some point, and if the whole point of this tournament is to further that story and nothing more, then it will be a waste of time. What's worse is that any match involving The Nightmare Sisters is usually terrible and this was pretty bad, too. I applaud Ford for trying, but the rest of the women weren't able to hold their own as well. This was a train wreck.
