By Graham "GSM" Matthews Nikki Bella Won a No. 1 Contender's Halloween Costume Battle Royal for the Divas Championship The Diva costume contests are always a treat every year, but not when they come in the form of Battle Royals. The wrestling was absolutely atrocious, but that didn't come as much of a surprise given who was involved. It didn't overstay its welcome, thankfully, but it wasn't the best way to kick off the night. If nothing else, Paige and Alicia Fox furthered their feud and Nikki is a logical contender to AJ's Divas title. Expect Brie to cost her sister the title match at Survivor Series. This feels like John Cena joining The Nexus all over again. Kane def. Intercontinental Champion Dolph Ziggler (Non-title) I enjoyed their match from Monday's Raw and this bout was much of the same. Kane isn't the greatest technical wrestler at this stage of this career (not that he ever really was), but he held his own against Ziggler who carried him to a good match. Although I hated how Ziggler lost a non-title match, at least it came following a cool finish of Kane catching Ziggler in mid-air for the chokeslam. Kane needs wins, but they shouldn't come at the expense of someone who also needs them.

By Graham "GSM" Matthews Summer Rae def. Emma As seen from their work in NXT last year, these two are capable of great matches together, but they worked a decent enough matchup here with the time they were allotted. Why are Summer and Layla still together as a unit? I could've sworn they parted ways weeks ago. Anyway, it still pains me to see how underutilized Emma has been as of late. Summer could be a strong heel Diva for the division if she and Layla weren't the second coming of LayCool. Tyson Kidd def. Sin Cara The clash of styles from these two competitors made for a very interesting and fun matchup. There was a lot of cool reversals and while most of the focus was on Kidd (and Natalya at ringside), Sin Cara had a nice showing as well. I was glad to see Kidd pick up another victory and it furthers his ongoing storyline with Natalya effectively. Kidd and Cara work well together, so I wouldn't mind seeing more from them at some point. By Graham "GSM" Matthews The Vaudevillians Won a No. 1 Contender's Tag Team Battle Royal for the NXT Tag Team Championship Battle Royals can either be really fun or really boring, and this match fell more into the latter. There wasn't anything necessarily wrong with it, but most of the teams involved aren't well established enough for fans to care about them. The finish was predictable with Hideo Itami distracting The Ascension to grant The Vaudevillians the victory. How many weeks has Ascension gotten the better of Itami? It's made him out to look like a loser and has done him more harm than good, even though I know the payoff is coming fairly soon. It better be worth it for Itami's sake. Carmella def. Emma Carmella has been entertaining in her backstage segments with Enzo Amore and Colin Cassady, but her matches have left a lot to be desired. Emma is good enough in the ring to be able to carry someone like Carmella, but not even she could bring her to a passable bout. Emma's lack of motivation doesn't help matters, either. It's not her fault WWE has completely wasted her on the main roster. Camerlla is probably better off competing alongside Amore and Cassady for the foreseeable future until she improves. By Graham "GSM" Matthews X-Division Champion Samoa Joe and Low Ki def. MVP and Kenny King in a Tag Team Tournament Semifinal Match All four competitors in this match are excellent athletes, so I was happy to see them get as much time as they did. It was a very well-wrestled matchup with everyone involved looking good by the end of it. However, it was hard to get excited about anything they did because the tournament was made a week ago and it doesn't have much meaning behind it. I like the pairing of Joe and Low Ki, but I'm sure this setting up another one-on-one match between the two for the X-Division title. Devon and Tommy Dreamer Brawled with Bram and Magnus Both Bram and Magnus are above-average on the mic and they cut good promos here. The only issue is that I couldn't care less about their apparent feud with Devon. I never cared for Devon when he broke away from Bully Ray a few years ago and I don't care about him now that Ray is seemingly gone from the company. I know he's found a partner in Dreamer, but Dreamer is another guy who shouldn't have a regular role on TV at this point. The brawl was fine, but I'm grown tired of all the hardcore matches at this point. By Graham "GSM" Matthews The Miz Hosted 'Miz TV' with The Usos It's so typical of WWE to change something they initially advertised for Main Event at the last minute. It's one of the many reasons people don't take this show seriously and take everything they advertise with a grain of salt. This was far less newsworthy than an appearance from Mark Henry and a lot more pointless. I enjoy The Usos as much as anyone, but they've been overexposed as of late and this segment fell flat. The Usos def. The Miz and Damien Mizdow The two teams worked as good of a match as they did on Raw. It received a substantial amount of time, but it felt like a longer version of their previous encounter. The worst part about it was how the finish was exactly the same. Twin Magic is bad enough for a pair of babyfaces once, but twice? Come on, really? I can't complain too much since it's better than seeing The Usos in another six-man tag team match against Gold and Stardust, and at least it'll (hopefully) lead to Miz and Mizdow attempting it as well. |
