![]() By Graham "GSM" Matthews Edge and Christian Hosted 'The Cutting Edge Peep Show' with Adam Rose I feared putting Edge and Christian on Main Event in addition to Raw and SmackDown this week would run the risk over overexposure, but this segment wasn't meant to be anything serious. In fact, it was relatively harmless and fun for what it was. Edge and Christian's antics were entertaining as always and Rose played his heel role well. It's encouraging to see that The Bunny is no longer a part of the act and I'd love it if the rosebuds were the next ones to leave him. NXT Women's Champion Charlotte def. Sasha Banks (Non-title) I've always been a big proponent of having more NXT stars on the main shows, but while Main Event is no Raw, it's still a nice platform (even though it also airs on WWE Network). Anyone who saw their clashes at NXT Takeover: R Evolution and on the Christmas episode of NXT know how well these two work together and this was another very good match from them. They weren't given too much time, but just enough to make an impression. It's only a matter of time in my opinion before both of these ladies are called up to the main roster permanently.

![]() By Graham "GSM" Matthews WWE World Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar Interrupted Edge and Christian Edge and Christian's antics were entertaining as always and they had a lot of fun with the live crowd. The timing of Lesnar coming down to the ring right before they could break out the Five Second Pose was great. Paul Heyman's promo was solid and John Cena also played his part well. It was a simple, effective way of furthering their feud without giving too much away. On a side note, is Christian officially retired? It was hinted at by the commentators during the segment, and if so, I'm disappointed a bigger deal wasn't made of it. Intercontinental Champion Dolph Ziggler def. United States Champion Rusev by Disqualification (Non-title) Champion vs. champion matches doesn't quite mean what they used to, but this was still a good match while it lasted. They work well enough together that I wouldn't mind seeing a full-fledged feud between them down the line. You had to know Rusev's undefeated streak wasn't going to end in a random match with Ziggler and Ziggler had to keep his momentum going strong, so the non-finish (while executed in lame fashion) was logical. ![]() By Graham "GSM" Matthews There have been a lot of rumblings lately, especially in recent weeks, about a potential return to UFC for Brock Lesnar. Interestingly enough, it was three years ago this week that Lesnar “retired” from the octagon. In doing MMA for the last five years, I became a fan of UFC (not a hardcore fan, just a casual fan). I was exposed to Lesnar over the summer of 2009 and watched a few of his fights in 2010 and 2011. He was returning from another one of his diseases on the night of December 30, 2011 to face Alistair Overeem. The fight lasted all of one round. It was embarrassing. For a guy who was one of the biggest draws in the history of UFC, Lesnar's MMA career ended with a whimper. At the end of the day, I couldn't blame him. The various diseases he suffered from took their toll on him, so it was smart to retire when he did to avoid further embarrassment and, more importantly, further damage to his health. But when Lesnar announced his retirement from UFC, it wasn't bittersweet for him. In fact, it was actually kind of exciting. He was a badass in UFC, sure, but there was only one place I wanted him to be, and that was in WWE. #AskGSM Edition #59: Best/Worst of WWE in 2014, Expectations for 2015, Royal Rumble Candidates, More12/29/2014 ![]() By Graham "GSM" Matthews #AskGSM is a weekly Q&A video where I, Graham "GSM" Matthews, answer fan questions from Facebook, Twitter and YouTube in regards to the world of wrestling. Nothing is off limits, and this week’s edition touches upon a variety of topics including:
![]() By Graham "GSM" Matthews Seth Rollins Interrupted Hulk Hogan I've complained ad nauseam for months about how WWE should be doing more with Hogan from a storyline standpoint. He's a great ambassador for the company if they ever need anything promoted, but I was glad to see him mix it up with the current talent in this segment. I enjoyed his exchange with Rollins, but the segment started to drag after that. Everyone played their part well, but it was just another one of those long, formulaic segment that you know where it's going and it overstays its welcome. Ryback def. Kane Ryback and Kane simply don't have the best of chemistry, so it was best that this match was kept short and sweet. It wasn't even that the match was all that bad, but people simply couldn't care less for Kane these days. Ryback was protected by having to face a two-on-one advantage and getting attacked by Rusev afterward. Their feud has been very well handled so far and the crowd will go crazy if/when Ryback gives him his comeuppance. |
