By Graham "GSM" Matthews Kurt Angle Confronted TNA World Heavyweight Champion Lashley They've been doing a solid job of building tension between Angle and Lashley and setting up a future clash between the two, but was it necessary for them to confront each other on this show? MVP got himself noticed by interrupting the segment, but the focus should be on the title match between him and Lashley, not Angle and Lashley just yet. I appreciate the foreshadowing, but this time would have been better used as a last minute effort to put heat on the main event (although they did that effectively did that via backstage segments throughout the night). Rockstar Spud and Mr. Anderson def. Ethan Carter III and Tyrus I was among the minority who was still enjoying the Spud vs. EC3 feud, but I agree with the general consensus that it has seemed to have jumped the shark in recent weeks. It's all about Anderson, Tyrus and the obsession with hair for some reason, basically anything but the bad blood between Spud and EC3 that got this rivalry started in the first place. The match was decent for what it was, but it was a lose-lose situation. Spud needed the win and EC3 couldn't be pinned, forcing Tyrus to be the one to take the loss for the team.

By Graham "GSM" Matthews Erick Rowan def. Adam Rose After weeks of walking out to silence on Raw and on Sunday at Fastlane, Rowan received a pretty nice pop when he came out for his match here, but I attribute most of that to the show being taped. It was a glorified squash win for Rowan, and that's exactly what it needed to be. So much damage has been done to Rose to the point where wins aren't going to do anything to help him, whereas Rowan is still somewhat relevant, so at least this making quick work of Rowan benefited him a bit. Luke Harper def. Kofi Kingston I can't remember how many times in the past these two have gone one-on-one if ever, so it felt fresh and they worked a fun match. Kingston has been so devalued that it was hard to take any of his offense serious, but he and Harper had an interesting clash of styles, making for an enjoyable encounter. The New Day is a lost cause until they go heel, but there's still hope for Harper if they can book him properly instead of marginalizing him like they have been for the last few months. By Graham "GSM" Matthews Intercontinental Champion Bad News Barrett Interrupted Daniel Bryan Bryan cut a decent promo here, but his character has been acting strange these last few weeks. If a heel turn isn't in the works (and I pray to God it's not), then his odd behavior is pointless. Barrett's interruption was a pleasant surprise and it appears based off what went down here that Bryan will be involved in the Intercontinental Championship match at WrestleMania. Obviously, he deserves better than that, but on the bright side, it means he wouldn't be facing Sheamus for a third time, so that's a plus, isn't it? Dean Ambrose def. The Miz These two worked a very good match several months back and I was hoping for more of the same here, but they were really restricted for time. However, they made the most of the time they were allotted and had a nice match. Damien Mizdow was conspicuous by his absence, and although the commentators mentioned it, it was never explained. Nevertheless, the only purpose this match served was distracting Ambrose long enough so Barrett could get his belt back. By Graham "GSM" Matthews Aerostar def. Drago We didn't know much about Aerostar before this bout and we still don't now, but it was easy to care about the match because Drago has already been established. This was still a nice matchup between the two and they kicked off the night on a fun note. Aerostar picking up the victory was a pleasant surprise and I'm glad they held back a bit seeing how they have a full best of five series ahead of them. Cage def. Lucha Underground Champion Prince Puma (Non-title) I had completely forgotten Puma was off TV for as long as he was. It was a smart move to have him (along with Konnan) sell the beatdown from Cage from last month as it makes it mean more. Although the match was slightly sloppy, they picked up the pace down the stretch and delivered a highly entertaining match, an even better match than their initial encounter from a few weeks ago. I loved the way Puma kept kicking out of each of Cage's big power moves (all of which were impressive) only for Konnan to throw in the towel. I thought they would have had Konnan turn on Puma a while ago, but I actually like the direction they're taking with it instead. By Graham "GSM" Matthews Hideo Itami def. Bull Dempsey Was the sole purpose Dempsey was pushed was so he could be fed to Baron Corbin? He hasn't been the same since then, and his three losses to Corbin definitely don't help matters. It was a fine showcase match for Itami and it's nice to see him adapting more and more to the WWE style as time goes on. I'm also glad his feud with Tyler Breeze seems to be continuing as it gives both guys direction for the foreseeable future. The Lucha Dragons def. Jason Jordan and Tye Dillinger The two teams worked a fun little match, but nothing we haven't seen before from them. Now that they're no longer tag team champions, I'm not sure what there is left for them to do in NXT like The Ascension. Maybe they're around for the next set of shows, but beyond that they might be exclusive to the main roster. Of course, this match was the catalyst for the random split between Jordon and Dillinger. |
