By Carson Koschik We start off Main Event with Jericho coming out for the Highlight Reel with the Miz. I'm not sure why the concept of a WWE Superstar having a talk show is such a popular thing, especially because they're all basically the exact same thing. But Jericho is always entertaining, and Miz is pretty good too. Side note: This may be the first time Jericho has worn a shirt under his light bright jacket. Jericho says that due to Miz being tossed around like a rag-doll by Cesaro on Raw (which is one hell of a gif if you ever cow across by the way), Alberto Del Rio will be the guest on the highlight reel. Ricardo Rodriguez, who basically comes out of nowhere, announces Del Rio, and the World Heavyweight Champion makes hi way to the ring. Del Rio grabs the mic and says that he doesn't want to talk about the Big Show because the time for talking is over, and the time for fighting is now. Well, actually the time for fighting was on Smackdown, Royal Rumble, and Raw Roulette, but I guess the "Singles Match" time for fighting is now. Jericho cuts in and says that he and Del Rio's family have some history, as Dos Caras cared for Jericho when he was starting up in the business. Jericho than states that even though his family has been good to him, he will win the Elimination Chamber Match, and go on to defeat Del Rio at WrestleMania. Del Rio disputes, but Jericho starts to (I think) insult him in Spanish. I don't speak Spanish. Ricardo, Jericho, and Del Rio just start to repeat a Spanish worked at each other, until Ricardo interrupts with a quick Spanish monologue that I don't even think Spanish people could understand. As Jericho and Del Rio make sure a winded Ricardo is okay, Ziggler's music hits and he comes out to confront two people he could very well be facing at WrestleMania. Ziggler says that they can't talk about the World Heavyweight Championship without him. Jericho throws a few insults at the WWE's Final Fantasy VII group (I hope you got that reference), but Ziggler and company brush the insults off. Ziggler says that he will cash-in his title before WrestleMania, which is hopefully true. Del Rio says that it's about time someone taught Ziggler a lesson, a lesson I think was already taught to Zigz by Cena and Sheamus. Multiple times.

CM Punk lays a brutal beating on WWE Champion The Rock. Strong promo from Paul Heyman and CM Punk to kick off the show. I was extremely disappointed when hearing Heyman was "resigning" from Raw, but it appears he won't be leaving after all following his talk with Punk. That being said, did this segment serve much of a purpose aside from convincing viewers to tune into the show? Nonetheless, Heyman's mic work was excellent as usual and made for an entertaining opener. Fine match between Mark Henry and The Great Khali. It used to put over Henry's sheer strength and dominance, so it was successful in that aspect. Thankfully, the match was a mere minute long and limited Khali's in-ring skills. Henry has looked great since his return last week and I look forward to his performance inside the Elimination Chamber. Excellent match with Chris Jericho defeating WWE Tag Team Champion Daniel Bryan to qualify for the number one contender's Elimination Chamber match. As stated on-air, this was the first time these two have locked up since their initial meeting on the premiere episode of NXT three years ago, so it certainly felt fresh. It involved some awesome action and hard-hitting offense from both competitors. Allowing Jericho to enter the Elimination Chamber was a smart move, as I hope for him to advance to WrestleMania to face Dolph Ziggler for the World Heavyweight Championship. Predictable match with John Cena, Sheamus and Ryback defeating 3MB. The outcome of the bout was never in doubt, so why even bother having the match in the first place. If nothing else, the simultaneous finishers in the match's closing moments made for a cool visual. Their post-match promo was well executed and helped hype their six-man tag team match against The Shield on Sunday. Effective segment with Big Show knocking out Matt Striker and not saying a single word. If he were to cut a promo, it would've been no different than anything we've heard up to this point, so I appreciated the unique approach they took with it. Honestly, this probably did more to get heat on Show than anything else he's done in recent weeks, so it was well done. I just don't understand as to why Show is booked so inconsistently, as it seems like he switches from comedic heel to intimidating monster on a weekly basis. Basic squash match with Jack Swagger defeating Zack Ryder. I've taken a liking to Swagger's new look since returning, and his newfound aggression is also a significant improvement. While I'm not all that familiar with Zeb Coulter, he cut a solid promo following Swagger's victory. Swagger still needs some work on the mic, so it's nice to see that he's finally got a manager who can fill that gap for him. Good match between The Miz and Cody Rhodes. While the match didn't last very long, I enjoyed what we got and the disqualification finish protected both guys. Antonio Cesaro's ambush on the Miz post-match was brutal, as he violently swung the Awesome One against the barricade. This feud has been on and off in recent weeks, but it's look to be headed for a rematch between the two at Elimination Chamber. By Abiel Tesfamariam Five years ago from this past November, the Fabulous Moolah was announced dead. This moment was very crestfallen moment. She was the greatest female wrestler of all time and had made a huge impact for women wrestling all around the world. She was born in July 22, 1923. She always dreamed about wrestling and had it on her mind since she was ten. At the age of 14 she married a 21-year-old man and had kids later on. She divorced her husband who name was Carroll. She was only fifteen, she left her daughter to pursue on her wrestling career. In 1940 she started to wrestle with the legendary Mildred Burke. Her first match was with June Byers. She left the wrestling promotion at where she wrestled at and went to the WWF. Years later in 1956, Fabulous Moolah accomplished something huge. She won the women's champion from current nwa title holder Judy Grable from a thirteen women battle royal. After winning it, she was called "The Fabulous Moolah." For many (I mean many) years she defended the champion against top female wrestlers around the world. She defended it against June Byers who came out of retirement to wrestle her. She defended it against ladies like Donna Christanello and Judy Grable. Nevertheless she lost it after ten years to Betty Boucher (Although it was never recognized), but won it weeks later. She also traded the belt with a japanese female wrestler Yukiko Tomoe. But one of Moolah's biggest accomplishments came in July 1, 1972. She became the first woman to wrestle at the madison square garden. This was a huge thing because she broke down one of the hugest barriers no other ladies can. She continued to hold the lady's champion for 8 years until Sue Green won it but lost it weeks later to Moolah. She also bought the legal rights to the championship in the late 1970s. She lost the champion again to Evelyn Green but also won it back later on. (Those title lost were never recognized so she was still in her first reign.) She also was a two time nwa women's tag team champion with Toni Rose. By Park Henson For 434 days, CM Punk held the WWE Championship in what has become the greatest title reign in 25 years. I was looking forward to his 500th day as WWE Champion, but sadly that idea came crashing down at the Royal Rumble pay-per-view. The main event match of the Royal Rumble was “WWE Champion CM Punk vs. The Rock” in what turned out to be a fantastic main event. CM Punk had gotten the three count to defeat The Rock after an attack from someone “unknown” (The Shield). As Punk celebrated his victory, “Cult of Personality” stopped playing. Then, “No Chance in Hell” hit, and out came the Chairman, Mr. McMahon. Long story short, the match ended up being restarted by Vince, and The Rock pinned CM Punk in what seemed like a split second, becoming the new WWE Champion. So with that being said, let’s get down to it: the Pros, and the Cons. Pros: WWE has been in the slump when it comes to viewer ratings as of late, and with The Rock as WWE Champion, viewer ratings will definitely be up. Champion or not, The Rock brings in more viewers. Not only does he get more wrestling fans to watch RAW, he also attracts other viewers who otherwise would not watch wrestling. Simply put, The Rock is a ”viewer magnet” as well as a public icon. The Rock has been in many movies, TV shows, even Super Bowl commercials. “Dwayne Johnson” is a household name. He also is an energetic and, yes, “electrifying” WWE Champion. Not a boring champion such as when the Big Show is champion. If Rocky is on RAW, he will get the loudest pop of the night, hands down. |
