Natalya holds up the hand of Women's champ Paige. By Graham "GSM" Matthews NXT Women's Champion Paige def. Sasha Banks (Non-title) It was a very good match by WWE Divas' standards, but a relatively good match by NXT women's wrestling standards. It's no secret that Paige and Banks can go in the ring and they have nice chemistry together, but there wasn't much of a story to the match nor did it receive much time. If nothing else, the new submission finisher that Paige is now using is a sight to see. It's just hard to get excited about a feud between a potential Paige-Charlotte feud since Charlotte is still very green in the ring. I'm sure Paige will carry her to a passable match, but Charlotte simply isn't ready for this kind of push yet. NXT Tag Team Champions The Ascension def. Travis Tyler and Cal Bishop (Non-title) You've seen one Ascension squash match, you've seen them all. It's so ricdiclous to the point where it's comical how many times The Ascension have faced local athletes in the last two years. This is relatively new to those who just started watching NXT on the WWE Network but extremely tiresome to everyone else. They quality of the matches hasn't changed at all, but at least the Full Sail University is reacting to them now by chanting "YAH!" constantly, which is hysterical. Needless to say, The Ascension needs new challengers for their titles.

Bully Ray puts Bobby Roode through a table. By Graham "GSM" Matthews TNA World Heavyweight Champion Magnus Interrupted MVP Magnus and MVP are two of the better mic workers in TNA at the moment and I enjoyed their exchange here. However, Abyss' new look is ridiculous. I appreciate the effort TNA has taken in adapting and evolving his image, but his new mask is very Kane-esque. Not only that, but we already know what he looks like, so why not have him wrestle without a mask? Seeing Samoa Joe calmly walk into the ring without going straight after Magnus and Abyss was odd, even if MVP made sense of it by granting Joe against Abyss. This was segment was successful in hyping the TNA title match between Joe and Magnus next week while also leading into the subsequent bout between Abyss and Joe. Abyss def. Samoa Joe by Disqualification The match was decent enough, but I know better than to have high expectations for a match featuring Abyss. Joe got the best match that possibly could get out of him, so it was tremendously terrible. What was stupid, however, was Abyss resorting to using Janice, the most illogical weapon in all of wrestling, against Joe. I'm split on Eric Young resuming his feud with Abyss. On one hand, it makes sense given their history together and the crowd was heavily behind Young here. On the other hand, it's hard to take him seriously after being utilized as comedy fodder for years and the fact that we've already seen a Monster's Ball match between these two, so why would I want to see them face off again? AJ Lee locks in the Black Widow on Natalya. By Graham "GSM" Matthews Los Matadores def. Curtis Axel and Ryback This same exact match was held on last week's "WWE Superstars" and it wasn't any different this time around. It was a decent enough matchup, but didn't pack a punch at all. Los Matadores can be fun in the ring when they have the right opponents (such as The Usos last week), but Ryback and Axel just aren't those guys. It doesn't help that neither team is all that over at the moment, thus no one had any reason to care about the bout. I still laugh whenever Ryback and Axel lose to Los Matadores considering Ryback was headlining pay-per-views for the WWE Championship less than a year ago. Divas Champion AJ Lee def. Natalya As expected, AJ and Natalya had a great match together in what was easily the best bout in the Divas division in recent memory. Had it not happened on Main Event, it probably wouldn't have gotten as much time as it did, so I was glad it didn't occur anywhere else. Both ladies worked hard and the finish was nicely built toward, especially since there was some doubt in AJ retaining in the title. In the end, I'm happy she did because as the longest reigning Divas champ in history, if her reign is to come to an end, it should be at WrestleMania. John Cena comes face-to-face with Hulk Hogan. By Graham "GSM" Matthews Hulk Hogan Made a WrestleMania Announcement "Real American" will never get old to me, nor will it for any the fans in attendance for also went crazy when they heard it. It's only been two weeks since we last saw him and Hogan looks to be in even better physical shape than he was before. His promo was also kept short and sweet and I love the idea of a 30-man battle royal in memory of Andre the Giant at WrestleMania 30, as it's a great way of getting a lot of talented individuals on the card. I also like how Hogan stayed out there for the confrontation between John Cena and Bray Wyatt, which was equally excellent. Wyatt was great on the mic per usual and while Cena was his usual corny self, he got serious when it mattered most and finally challenged Bray to a match at WrestleMania 30. John Cena def. Erick Rowan The fact the match started during the commercial break and ended mere minutes later didn't help matters much, but at least Rowan dominated most of the match. Not only that, but Rowan lost via a roll-up and the commentators put him over well afterward. I was happy to not see Hogan get physical with The Wyatt Family, as I think that's the last thing he should be doing at this point. Regardless, it was very cool to see Hogan in the ring with Cena for a few minutes even if the fans weren't as receptive. Abyss helps Magnus retain the TNA title. By Graham "GSM" Matthews The Great Muta, X-Division Champion Sanada and Yasu def. Bad Influence and Chris Sabin in a Steel Cage Match The match was not at all hyped going into the event to the point where many viewers (myself included) probably didn't even know it was occurring. That's a shame, too, since there is a story to be told between the two teams/promotions, especially with the inclusion of the legendary Great Muta. Speaking of whom, he was obviously limited in his role, but he was fun in his small doses and the crowd was very receptive to him. The match was very well wrestled and everyone involved played their roles well. Sanada's X-Division title win, which was first mentioned on this show, felt like an afterthought, but this wouldn't be the first time that the strap has meant next to nothing. Dixie Carter Addressed the Audience This was almost as bad as when The Authority opens up WWE pay-per-views with a promo. Seriously, what was the point? She was terrible on the mic and got more go-away heat than actual heat. She flubbed her lines more than once and her promo went on for far too long. She hyped a special "surprise" for the main event, but that could have easily been established in backstage segments instead of coming out in front of the audience for five minutes and wasting everyone's time. |
