Silas Young and ROH World Tag Team Champions The Briscoes def. Shibonbi Shadow SquadIt should be noted that this was taped before The Briscoes lost the ROH World Tag Team Championship to Villain Enterprises at the 17th Anniversary Show on Friday, so this bout is a bit outdated. It was still fun from an in-ring standpoint with everyone getting a chance to shine at one point or another. Young and The Briscoes going over was obviously the right call, but I don't know how much the victory did for them considering they're already established. Beer City Brusiers def. Brian Johnson and Joe KeysBeer City Bruisers are quietly building momentum at the moment and I'm all for it. They've gradually been growing on me since they transitioned into a babyface role late last year and seem to be winning the audience over as well. This was a nice little showcase for them that didn't overstay its welcome. I hope to see them featured in the tag title picture before long.
Mike Kanellis def. Akira TozawaKanellis is looking like he did during his Ring of Honor days years ago with his newly-shaved head. I'm all for the change of appearance if it means he's on the verge of receiving a renewed push in WWE. This was a perfectly fine match from him and Tozawa, but despite a valiant effort from Tozawa, Kanellis was unable to impress me. I know he can go in the ring and I loved the hell out of his performance against Cedric Alexander several weeks back, but by and large, he has not been a great fit for 205 Live. We'll see if this victory amounts to anything for him or if it was merely a one-off. Tony Nese def. Cedric Alexander to Win the WWE Cruiserweight Championship No. 1 Contender's TournamentNese and Alexander have had countless matches against each other since the dawn of the division in 2016, so it's clear they have chemistry together. By this point, they're almost incapable of having a bad match, so I was hardly surprised that this was such a strong conclusion to the Cruiserweight title tourney. Both guys gave it their all, but ultimately, Nese was the right choice to contend for the championship at WrestleMania. Not only have we seen Alexander vs. Buddy Murphy many times before, Nese has history with Murphy and WrestleMania will be taking place near where he calls home. I assume the post-match angle with Murphy blindsiding Nese was designed to officially turn Nese face.
The Miz Addressed Shane McMahonI liked Shane's first promo since turning heel on last week's show, but Miz clearly cut the better promo here. I feel fans often forget how amazing Miz is on the mic, but he definitely reestablished himself as a tremendous talker with this segment. He was intense, focused and fired up about how he's earned the respect of the fans over the past 13 years. Props to Miz and Shane for getting me invested in a storyline I had zero expectations for when it started several months back. The IIconics def. WWE Women's Tag Team Champions The Boss 'n' Hug Connection (Non-title)From an in-ring standpoint, this was a pretty good match, but The IIconics haven't meant anything in some time, so it was honestly hard to take them seriously against Banks and Bayley. I realize the result was designed to incorporate The IIconics into the WWE Women's Tag Team Championship match at WrestleMania 35, but as I mentioned in my Raw review, I'd prefer a more standard two-on-two approach with The Divas of Doom challenging The Boss 'n' Hug Connection and nobody else.
