TNA World Heavyweight Champion Lashley and Ethan Carter III Interrupted X-Division Champion Mike Bennett Although Dixie Carter was absent from this week's episode, Billy Corgan still had to have his presence felt. Thankfully, his role was kept short and sweet, and his mic work was better than it has been in recent weeks. Lashley, EC3 and Bennett shined per usual and set up the night's X-Division Battle Royal and main event nicely. Knockouts Champion Sienna def. Gail Kim This really should have felt like a bigger deal than it did, and the fact it was mere minutes long didn't help matters. Sienna is fresh off winning the title and Kim was announced as the newest inductee into the TNA Hall of Fame, so I would have waited awhile before going back to this match, especially over the title. I still couldn't care less about the Jade vs. Marti Bell feud, and now what is Sienna supposed to do if she's pretty much run through the entire division?

The Lucha Dragons def. The Ascension It's been several months since we last saw these two teams square off, but it still feels like not enough time has passed because all of their matches blend together. At the very least, they work well together, so I can't complain. I continue to hope that The Lucha Dragons will be split up in the upcoming WWE Draft so Kalisto can get back on track as a singles star and won't be held down by Sin Cara. The Golden Truth def. Breezango It delighted me to finally hear David Otunga actually acknowledge that FaBreeze is a much more fitting name for the heel duo, as well as how they would likely run into copyright infringement if they went with it. That was pretty much the only thing that stood out to me during this match because it was basically over before it even began, but that might have been for the better since I had virtually no interest in this Money in the Bank rematch, anyway. Seth Rollins Addressed Roman Reigns' Suspension There was absolutely no way WWE could keep Reigns in the Triple Threat WWE World Heavyweight Championship match at Battleground (which I still don't agree with) and not acknowledge his suspension at all. Rollins pretty much echoed the thoughts of the majority by demanding he be removed from the match. Additionally, I loved how he tied it back to himself and how it "embarrassed" him because of their former friendship. Styles and Cena both have claims to be involved in the title picture, so their respective matches with Ambrose and Rollins made sense in storyline and were exciting announcements in regards to the rest of the show. Reigns remains in the title match, but it is what it is, I suppose. Sasha Banks and Paige def. WWE Women's Champion Charlotte and Dana Brooke This was a very logical follow-up to the events of last week's Raw that I didn't even think of ahead of time. Well done, WWE. It was a well-wrestled match and I was happy to see all the women receive entrances this week. Banks was the central focus of the match and the crowds are responding to her in a major way. WWE could have very easily had Banks pin Charlotte for the win, which I wouldn't have hated simply because it would have earned her a title shot, but I was glad WWE resisted having the champion eat another loss. #AskGSM Edition #135: Roman Reigns' Suspension, The Wyatt Family Return, WWE Draft Projections, More6/27/2016  By Graham "GSM" Matthews

When Graham texted me last week about the news that Roman Reigns was suspended I didn’t believe it. I was at work and jumped on the internet and saw the breaking news of the suspension. Initially I laughed just thinking of how mad Vince McMahon must have been when he found out that “The Guy” failed the WWE Wellness policy. This suspension was huge especially for the WWE since they are pushing Reigns to be the next top babyface of either Raw or SmackDown with the upcoming brand split. When the reports came out that the WWE knew of the suspension before Money in the Bank I wasn’t surprised they had Reigns lose clean for the first time on the main roster. However, them keeping him in the main event for Battleground was very puzzling. Why would the WWE reward him after being suspended for a month by keeping him in the title match? It’s also odd that they would have “The Shield” Triple threat at Battleground of all PPVs. I’m assuming that with the upcoming WWE Draft that the three former Shield members will be drafted to different shows and it won’t happen soon. |
