Jake Strong def. Sammy GuevaraIt was clear from the get-go that Lucha Underground had bgi plans to make Strong a real player based off how he was booked and his streak of dominance continued here as he picked up a victory against the other guy he teamed with in his debut, Sammy Guevara. However, this wasn't your standard squash match because it was actually fairly competitive and Guevara was able to impress the audience with his high-flying moves before eating defeat. Matanza Cueto def. Vinnie MassaroMassaro hasn't competed in many matches in Lucha Underground (was his involvement in Aztec Warfare on the Season 4 premiere episode technically his in-ring debut for the promotion?), so if there was anyone on the roster who should have been killed off by Matanza, it was him. Hey, at least he went out in style (kind of). This segment dragged on a little longer than it needed to, but it held the attention of the crowd and succeeded in what it set out to do in further establishing Matanza as an unstoppable force.

NXT North American Champion Adam Cole def. Sean Maluta (Non-title)I realize I say this almost every time he makes an appearance on TV, but holy hell, Cole and the rest of Undisputed Era are so damn over at the moment. He had the crowd in the palm of his hand before the bout and this turned to be a nice little match between him and Maluta, which resulted in a clean win for the North American champ. I enjoyed his post-match verbal exchange with Ricochet even more, seemingly setting that up as a championship clash for NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn IV. NXT Women's Champion Shayna Baszler and Kairi Sane Signed the Contract for Their NXT Women's Championship Match at TakeOver: Brooklyn IVI'd argue that no promotion does contract signings better than NXT does. I liked that they mirrored the contract signing with AJ Styles and Shinsuke Nakamura on SmackDown Live from last month by holding this backstage instead of in front of the live crowd. It added to the intensity of the segment and allowed both women to shine. It was also great that they played off their history with each other with Sane confident that she could beat Baszler again, this time for the NXT Women's Championship.
#AskGSM is a weekly Q&A video where I, Graham "GSM" Matthews answer fan questions from Facebook, Twitter and YouTube in regards to the world of wrestling. Nothing is off limits, and this week’s edition touches upon a variety of topics including:
Jay Lethal, ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Champion Matt Taven and Cody Staked Their Claim at the ROH World ChampionshipWe're so far removed from the Best in the World pay-per-view that it's tough to remember who's in the running for the ROH World Championship, but this segment did a good job of reestablishing several stars as threats to the title. All four men cut solid promos and the crowd was hot for the announcement that the championship match would be taking place later on in the night. ROH Women of Honor Champion Sumie Sakai def. HazukiI didn't know too much at all about Hazuki coming into this contest, but she really, really impressed me here. This was a super strong showing from her and of course Sakai looked awesome as always as well, so on the whole, this was one of the best women's matches I've seen in Ring of Honor yet. The audience was invested in the action by the end and reacted big to some of the nearfalls. The women of Stardom have been a great get for ROH so far.
Akira Tozawa def. Gentleman Jack GallagherTozawa has lost almost every important matchup he has been involved in this year, but it was cool to see him score a victory here. As a match, this was perfectly solid and well-wrestled, yet it didn't light the world on fire (they were going to be overshadowed by the main event no matter what). It's rare Gallagher competes in singles competition nowadays, so I was happy he was showcased on his own for a change. Afterward, Tozawa asked Drake Maverick for a rematch with Lio Rush, so that could be coming as soon as next week. Lucha House Party def. Ryan Depolo and Chris RobinsonFirst and foremost, I absolutely love the new WWE Shop shirt for Lucha House Party that models the old In Your House logo. That's really cool. Anyway, we were told that Tony Nese couldn't compete for whatever reason, so the Lucha House Party vs. Nese and Buddy Murphy match was scrapped until another time. Instead, Kalisto and Lince Dorado squashed their unknown opponents in what was basically a fun showcase for them.
