NXT General Manager William Regal Announced a Ladder Match for the Vacant NXT North American Championship at TakeOver XXXI was hoping Lee would continue to hold and defend both belts (a la Jay Lethal in Ring of Honor in 2015, Seth Rollins that same year, and Becky Lynch last year), but no such luck. What would have been wrong with him defending the North American title at the start of TakeOver XXX and then the NXT Championship in the main event? I just think it's an uneventful way for his lengthy reign to end, but I understand they may not want their newest top guy getting pinned for a secondary title. He'll look like a giant idiot if he loses the NXT title to Karrion Kross at TakeOver, so fingers crossed that isn't what happens (yet). I'm just glad Regal isn't stepping down as general manager as he seemed to hint at on Twitter before the show. By the way, what the hell is with WWE/NXT's obsession with Ladder matches this past year? Dexter Lumis def. Killian DainAlthough this was an odd clash of styles on paper, it turned into a quality contest. It was well wrestled, but I think my biggest issue with it was that neither guys are in the midst of anything important right now. Lumis is at least riding a wave of momentum going into next week's NXT North American Championship Ladder match qualifier, whereas Dain has been a gatekeeper of sorts for the undercard all year long. He's a talented big man, but he needs a better, more defined role on the show.

AEW TNT Champion Cody def. Eddie Kingston in a No Disqualification MatchTony Khan teased on Twitter coming into this week's AEW TNT Championship open challenge that it would be answered by one of the "top independent wrestlers in the world." Eddie Kingston certainly fits that billing. To be honest, his pre-match promo was more memorable than the match itself, but it was an enjoyable outing, nonetheless. I could have done without the No Disqualification stipulation and the stupid thumbtacks spot, but Kingston showed heart and looked good in defeat. I'm totally fine with AEW not signing him because it makes it more exciting when future free agents answer the open challenge and they aren't immediately signed to a contract by the company. MJF def. Griff GarrisonIt's been a running joke on Being The Elite for a few weeks now that Garrison is Jungle Boy's older brother, so I got a kick out of MJF calling him "Jungle Man." This was a fun showcase for MJF, who shines any time he has a microphone in his hands. Thankfully, he did during this match. I maintain that it should be him challenging Jon Moxley for the AEW World Championship at All In. He's been unbeaten for this long and badly needs direction.
#AskGSM is a weekly Q&A video where I, Graham "GSM" Matthews, answer fan questions from Facebook, Twitter and YouTube in regards to the world of wrestling. Nothing is off limits, and this week’s edition touches upon a variety of topics including:
Impact X-Division Champion Chris Bey def. Willie MackIt's interesting that IMPACT got this rematch out of the way early as opposed to stretching out the feud a few more weeks with Mack in chase mode. It was an enjoyable opener, but much like their encounter at Slammiversary, it didn't reach that next level like I was hoping it would. On the bright side, Bey retained the title in clean fashion and I was happy Johnny Swinger didn't factor into the finish at all. The Good Brothers Attacked Ace Austin and Madman FultonIt was nice to hear from Karl Anderson and Doc Gallows here after they only appeared at Slammiversary and didn't speak. They didn't say much, but they established why they came to IMPACT and that they're a top tandem. That very well may be true, but after how they were booked in WWE toward the end, they're going to need to prove themselves all over again I feel. Thankfully, they're off to a solid start in IMPACT by getting the better of Austin and Fulton on back-to-back occasions. It's also a good storyline that keeps Austin busy following his unsuccessful pursuit of the Impact World Championship.
