Chris Sabin def. Scorpio SkySabin recently became the No. 1 contender to the ROH World Television Championship and is thus on a bit of a roll right now in singles competition. He and Sky had a fun, well-wrestled opening match that showcased both of their skill sets nicely. Afterward, Alex Shelley cut a heartfelt promo announcing his retirement from the ring (though he pointed out he could always return down the road) and it was actually really emotional. He mentioned how he felt getting hurt wasn't worth it anymore and thought The Motor City Machine Guns were no longer needed, which I assume was a shoot. Sabin will do well on his own but I will admittedly miss Motor City Machine Guns big time. Props to Shelley for also putting Punishment Martinez on the way out with the post-match attack. Karen Q def. Jenny RoseBoth of these women are still works in progress, but they put together a better bout than I was honestly expecting. It was far from a mat classic, but there weren't too many sloppy spots and they were able to hold the crowd's attention. Kelly Klein, who was doing commentary for this match, cost Rose the win by acting as a distraction at ringside, so that appears to be a new feud.
Noam Dar def. TJPI've enjoyed the series of matches these two have had over the past month and this was another solid match from them. It was well-wrestled and they made the most of the time they were allotted. Unfortunately, it was dragged down by Wale's awful, awful commentary. I'm sure he's a nice guy and all, and perhaps WWE wanted to give him a shot at it, but he failed miserably, so here's hoping he isn't brought back. Nevertheless, with this win, Dar can now move on to something new. Akira Tozawa vs. Colin Delaney Went to a no ContestBefore the bout was set to take place, both guys were ambushed by Drew Gulak, Gentleman Jack Gallagher and The Brian Kendrick. Gulak then ran down Cedric Alexander in an attempt to convince him to give him a championship rematch after losing at SummerSlam. I love Alexander's intensity here, and although Drake Maverick originally denied the request of a rematch, I'm sure Alexander will do something to make it happen. This angle was well done.
Daniel Bryan and Brie Bella Attacked The Miz and MaryseNeedless to say, I'm stoked the Bryan vs. Miz feud is far from over and is instead just getting started after Miz cheated to beat Bryan at SummerSlam on Sunday. Miz mocking Bryan's retirement elicited excellent heat from the audience and led to an even bigger pop for Bryan when he eventually emerged. I should have seen the mixed tag team match coming, but I was genuinely surprised to see Brie Bella when she came out, so that was a cool moment. This was a hot angle to open the show with. By the way, how crazy is it that Maryse will already be back to wrestling mere months after having a baby? Randy Orton def. Jeff Hardy by DisqualificationOrton and Hardy have had a ruthless rivalry going since Extreme Rules last month, and although this started out slow, they picked up the pace down the stretch and had a solid match. The non-finish was important in protecting both guys and giving Hardy a measure of revenge, though I don't know if I would have gone as far as to have Hardy deliver a Swanton Bomb to Orton from the top of a production set. If nothing else, it was an awesome visual.
