By Graham "GSM" Matthews Seth Rollins def. Intercontinental Champion Dolph Ziggler (Non-title) The pre-match promo was well done and both delivered good mic work. It was a solid segment that nicely led into their subsequent match. Yes, it's a match we've seen countless times before over the last four months, but it's one pairing I never get tired of seeing because their matches are always enjoyable. Additionally, Ziggler is so over that the crowd bought into all of his nearfalls down the stretch. The final few minutes were fun even if the ending outcome was never in doubt. This is the third consecutive non-title loss. I guess it starts to happen to every midcard champion eventually. Dean Ambrose's post-match promo also set the stage for his main event match against Kane later in the night. Divas Champion AJ Lee def. Layla (Non-title) I could complain about the match being as brief as it was, but it's been the norm for the Divas for as long as I can remember, so it's not even worth it. It's just disappointing to me that two very good workers aren't allowed to have the match they're capable of having. The post-match attack on AJ from Paige and Alicia Fox was effective in giving them heat as Paige's next title encounter with AJ draws near.

By Graham "GSM" Matthews Baron Corbin def. Elias Sampson What's there to analyze about a six-second squash? What I can say, though, is that Corbin is massively over with the audience. His recent vignettes indicate he's a heel, but if that was the plan at first, I hope they abandoned it after hearing the reactions he's been receiving. He's competed in the same squash matches for the last month, so it's still hard to say what he's capable of in the ring until we see him take part in a competitive contest. Tyson Kidd Interrupted Sami Zayn Zayn and Kidd are two of the brightest stars in NXT right now and their interaction in this segment was highly entertaining. Both provided great mic work that set the stage for their main event match nicely. Their history alone would have been enough to warrant a match between them, but I really liked the effort put into making it mean something via this segment. By Graham "GSM" Matthews Bo Dallas def. Zack Ryder It was nice to see Ryder back on Superstars after his win over Heath Slater on last week's show. This wasn't nearly as fun as that match, but it was still halfway decent. The predictability of the finish was what kind of killed it for me, though. Despite his recent string of victories over Mark Henry, Dallas still feels like a cold character without any real momentum. It's a shame considering how well he was doing when was embarking on that undefeated streak a few months back. Cesaro def. Kofi Kingston Cesaro and Kingston have had some classic matches over the years and I expected them to have another barn burner of a bout here. That said, they definitely delivered. There was a lot of entertaining action and close near-falls down the stretch even though it was obvious Cesaro was going over. They just work so well together that it's simply impossible for them to have a bad match. The finish that saw Cesaro hit the uppercut out of nowhere on Kingston was a sweet visual and ended the match on a high note... literally! By Graham "GSM" Matthews Kurt Angle Called out TNA World Heavyweight Champion Lashley Lashley doesn't always impress when it comes to talking on his own without MVP or Kenny King by his side, but he did fine for himself here and Angle helped him through it. The tease for a future match between the two was nicely done and it actually meant something because Lashley has been built up in a big way as champion over the last four months. The segment was also successful in setting up the night's No. 1 Contender's main event. Knockouts Champion Havok def. Madison Rayne It's become clear in her brief run in TNA that Havok isn't nearly as good in the ring as I initially thought she was (silly me), but this was easily Havok's best TNA match yet. There were some sloppy spots, but Rayne carried him to a passable match. The important thing is that Havok has been booked like an absolute monster since arriving on the scene and the clean win only boasts his credibility. |
