#AskGSM is a weekly Q&A video where I, Graham "GSM" Matthews answer fan questions from Facebook, Twitter and YouTube in regards to the world of wrestling. Nothing is off limits, and this week’s edition touches upon a variety of topics including:

  • What were the best non-WWE matches of 2017?
  • Is the RKO the last protected finishing move in WWE?
  • Which would I have attended if I had the chance: this week's Raw or SmackDown Live?
  • Thoughts on Jason Jordan winning the Raw Tag Team Championship with Seth Rollins?
  • Should Samoa Joe have beaten Roman Reigns for the Intercontinental Championship?
  • What was the logic behind Dolph Ziggler winning the United States Championship?
  • Is Elias a future world champion?
  • Should Dean Ambrose turn heel upon his return?
  • Will WWE capitalize on Rusev's recent popularity?
  • Who will be a breakout star in 2018 for the main roster and in NXT?
  • And MUCH more!

The Dawgs def. Simon Grimm and Flip Gordon

This was the first time Grimm has appeared on ROH TV, but I believe he's been with the company for a while. He isn't a blockbuster signing by any means, so I wasn't surprised he wasn't showcased in a major way here and ended up losing. The match honestly lasted longer than I expected it to and was subjected to holiday silliness, but it was fine for what it was and the regular tandem scoring the victory made sense. However, Gordon deserves better than this.

ROH World Champion Dalton Castle, ROH World Television Champion Silas Young, Hanson, Jonathan Gresham and IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Champion Marty Scurll def. Cody, Scorpio Sky, Josh "The Goods" Woods, ROH World Tag Team Champion Chris Sabin and Punishment Martinez in a Christmas Surprise 10-Man Tag Team Match

The Christmas Surprise 10-man tag team match was a guilty pleasure of mine two years ago, so I was happy it was brought back for this show. It's basically what the Wild Card match was to WWE many years ago, and because it puts babyfaces and heels on the same team, it's a ton of fun. The main highlights of this match were any interaction between Castle and Cody, Scurll and Cody teasing going at it, and Hanson and Martinez trading blows. The crowd loved every second of this and I did, too. The "Merry Christmas!" chant summed this up in a nutshell.

Hideo Itami def. Gentleman Jack Gallagher

I assumed Kendrick was legitimately hurt after his match with Itami on Raw because he sold the shit out of that GTS, which apparently hit him square in the face. WWE.com confirmed the injury, so he might be out for some time, unfortunately. That made this match even more meaningful with Gallagher looking for revenge, but it was another extended squash in favor of Itami. I have no complaints, but Itami clearly looks unhappy (and can you honestly blame him?).

Tony Nese def. Akira Tozawa

Remember when Tozawa was taking Neville to the limit every week and at one point was the WWE Cruiserweight Champion? Good times, good times. Nowadays, he's just another dude in the Cruiserweight division that the crowd couldn't care less about. This was a well-wrestled affair, but there was nothing worth getting excited about. By the way, Nese said beforehand that he hates Enzo Amore for what he did two weeks ago, yet he remains loyal to The Zo Train. In other words, that whole attack angle was pointless because he seemingly doesn't want revenge.

SmackDown General Manager Daniel Bryan announced a United States Championship Tournament

Bryan declared that because Ziggler fell off the face of the earth and no one has heard from him, he has been stripped of the star-spangled prize. Basically, WWE is pulling a CM Punk with him circa 2011. Anyways, he was interrupted by Chad Gable and Shelton Benjamin, The New Day, and Rusev and Aiden English with each tandem staking their claim at a SmackDown Tag Team Championship match. Everyone involved in the segment was entertaining, and it tied nicely into the No. 1 Contender's match.

Chad Gable and Shelton Benjamin def. The New Day and Rusev & Aiden English in a SmackDown Tag Team Championship No. 1 Contender's Triple Threat Match

SmackDown's tag team division is killing it at the moment and these three teams maintained that momentum by putting together a terrific match. The pace was non-stop from start to finish and the crowd was engaged in the exciting action, but they were especially behind Rusev. If WWE was smart, they would listen to their audience and push him as a singles star coming out of this, but I'm not getting my hopes up. By the way, Gable and Benjamin appear to be full-fledged heels by this point.

Kalisto def. Tony Nese

Kalisto has more or less become a regular on Main Event since leaving the WWE Cruiserweight Championship picture last month, but this was one of his better bouts on the program in recent memory. Nese had a solid showing as well and they worked well together, having a real nice match on the whole that the crowd was surprisingly alive for. It's hard to take Nese seriously whenever he wins, however, because then he goes right back to losing matches like this.

The Revival def. Apollo Crews and Titus O'Neil

I was disappointed The Revival were nowhere to be seen on Raw this week, but I guess this explains why. What was cool about this was that it was set up last week with Titus Worldwide scouting The Revival backstage during their match. It wasn't the most exciting outing, mind you, but it was fun any time Crews was in the ring with either member of The Revival. Needless to say, The Revival scoring the victory was the right call.
