NXT Champion Finn Balor def. Guru Raaj (Non-Title)Not only did this mark Balor's ThunderDome debut, this was also his first main roster-related appearance since returning to NXT in October 2019. His last match on the main roster before that was against The Fiend at SummerSlam that year. Michael Cole was smart to run down what he's been doing since we last saw him because I'm sure there are fans who forget he's still with WWE because they don't watch NXT. Obviously, Raaj was never going to win, but this was all about him looking good in defeat and he accomplished that. It would have been ridiculous for him to last longer against Balor than he did, so this was exactly what it needed to be.

WWE Champion Drew McIntyre and Goldberg Attacked The Miz and John MorrisonI'm glad McIntyre is back after previously testing positive for COVID-19 and he cut a good promo as always, but the rest of this segment did nothing for me. Miz continues to tease cashing in his Money in the Bank briefcase at Royal Rumble, which obviously means he won't. He and Morrison were only out here to take a beating from the babyfaces and it made for a cool visual, but I wish we heard more from Goldberg. I know he isn't known for his mic skills, but it would have been nice to build up some bad blood between them before the pay-per-view. As of now, there's no real reason for them to be facing off other than Goldberg thinking McIntyre was being disrespectful a few weeks ago. There was never any follow-up on that, by the way.
Josh "The Goods" Woods def. Dalton Castle in a Pure Rules MatchCastle has been in the wrestling news recently as reportedly his Ring of Honor contract expired at the start of the year and he has yet to re-sign, or at least as far as I know. That's why it was interesting that he brought up his losing ways during his pre-match interview. It was the right call to have Woods win in case Castle doesn't return and because Woods is on the rise. This was a very good match and I hope Woods can continue to show more of his serious side. He can be entertaining and I enjoy his alliance with Silas Young, but that aggression would make him the perfect fit for the ROH Pure Championship eventually.
What's the Royal Rumble Game?It isn't Royal Rumble season until the official details for my annual Royal Rumble Game are released, and thus here we are! This will be the ninth consecutive year I will be hosting the Royal Rumble Game, and it remains one of my favorite things to do all year. Thanks to all who have ever participated and will continue to participate. I'm extremely excited for this upcoming installment, so let's get cracking!
By this point, everyone should be fairly familiar with the rules of the Royal Rumble (considering it's usually the same people who throw their name in the hat every year), but for those who are unfamiliar with the concept, here have been the rules in the past: You pick a number 1-30 for both the men's and women's pools. They can be different numbers and you can only choose to enter one pool if you'd like (especially if the other Rumble pool is full). Each entry is limited to one person, and it's first come, first serve. The designated sign-up date and time is below. If whoever enters at your number in the Royal Rumble Game wins the whole thing, you win the game! Similar to the last few years, there will two Rumble pools: one for the men's Rumble, and one for the women's Rumble. You are allowed enter both, so there could be as few as 30 total entrants. You are still limited to only one spot per Rumble, but when you choose two numbers between 1-30, please specify which is for the men's or and which is for women's. No two people can choose the same spot in one Rumble pool. Therefore, there will be two winners (unless the same person wins both, which is possible)! |
