By Graham "GSM" Matthews Jack Evans def. PJ Black Evans is quickly becoming one of my favorite competitors in Lucha Underground. I thoroughly enjoyed his work last season, but I'm very happy to see him getting more direction in Season 2. Despite his flashy in-ring offense, he really knows how to get a crowd to boo him, and his pre-match promo was excellent. He reminds me of Kevin Owens in that respect. The match was equally excellent and I liked how Drago inadvertently cost Black the win. I'd say losing his first two matches in Lucha Underground makes Black a loser, but it looks like they have a story set up for him with the way the camera focused on him afterward. Meanwhile, the Evans vs. Drago feud was well furthered. Gift of the Gods Champion King Cuerno def. Killshot (Non-title) Killshot has this cool mystique about him that draws me to his matches, but I can see why some fans feel indifferent toward him because we know next to nothing about his character. This was another enjoyable outing from him and Cuerno never ceases to impress me. I was slightly skeptical at first of him winning the Gift of the Gods title, but it has made for a fun feud with Fenix before the latter sets his sights back on Mil Muertes.

By RJ Marceau Since NXT was revamped they have developed new tag teams but none of them have been the total package like American Alpha. The Ascension was boring, Lucha Dragons lacked on the mic, Enzo & Cass aren’t great in the ring and Blake & Murphy have zero charisma. When Jason Jordan was teaming with Tye Dillinger I thought they were good but they needed someone to replace Dillinger. The vignettes of Chad Gable trying to become Jason Jordan’s tag team partner were hilarious. Jordan lacked charisma so pairing him with Gable who sweats charisma was the perfect pairing. Jason Jordan has the look and in ring skills to be a breakout singles star but right now in his career needs to be paired with Chad Gable. Gable & Jordan are set up to face Dash and Dawson at NXT TakeOver: Dallas. Since Gable & Jordan have turned babyface they are the hottest thing in the WWE. Not just NXT, I will say the whole WWE. These guys are so over with the audience it can give an avid fan goosebumps. I believe since they have become babyfaces they haven't even lost a match. They have been booked perfectly and should go on to win the titles from Dash and Dawson. If the WWE wanted to beef up the main roster tag team division they should promote American Alpha in a very stagnant division that lacks new blood. By Graham "GSM" Matthews Beer Money def. King of the Mountain Champion Eric Young and Bram in a Steel Cage Match Young and Bram simply don't have great chemistry as a tandem and I hope it's a matter of time before they break off into singles competition again, but they've worked well with Beer Money throughout this mini feud in recent weeks. As a result, this was an enjoyable opener to the show. Beer Money make anything they're involved in worth watching and this was another solid affair from them. The two-on-one dynamic made it stand out above most tag team matches and the babyfaces battling back to score the win was the right call. I look forward to their eventual money match with The Wolves for the tag team titles. TNA World Heavyweight Champion Matt Hardy Interrupted Ethan Carter III and Rockstar Spud I thought the angle that closed last week's show was enough to sell me on the Lockdown main event, but this segment did that very effectively. Although it was excellent, I didn't think it was necessary at first, but it ultimately made sense by the end of the night (more on that later). I really liked how Spud was reluctant to forgive EC3 at first after all the heinous things EC3 did to him over the course of their storied rivalry. Hardy's two cents were also entertaining and made me even more excited for the main event. By Jared "JJF" Jackson-Ferrans In professional wrestling, it can take years to become a major name in the business, and it's relatively rare to reach great heights at an early age. In fact, it may surprise you to know that two rapidly rising talents in the world of pro wrestling are each only 22 years old, and have already captured the hearts and minds of fans by signing with major promotions. What I described may seem like a dream, but for NJPW newcomer Will Ospreay and TNA X Division Champion Trevor Lee, it's a reality. Since I missed the opportunity to do an Indy Injection on either one of them, I figured comparing these young guns against each other would be the best way to assess them. And with their recent match in PWG, the timing couldn't be better. Let's get started. By Graham "GSM" Matthews Bo Dallas def. Darren Young I got my fill of the garbage between The Social Outcasts, R-Truth and Goldust for one week, so I'm glad we got a break from it on Main Event. This really wasn't much of a match as it only lasted a few minutes. In fact, the pre-match promo from The Social Outcasts probably went longer than the actual matchup did. That said, it was fine for what it was, yet ultimately forgettable. If nothing else, it was nice to see Dallas score the victory. The Social Outcasts have been winning more than they have been losing lately, which is more than I thought they would amount to when they first formed. Naomi def. Paige I've been signing the praises of Naomi for a while now, and although I admittedly lost hope for her when she failed to win the Divas Championship last year, she has been turning heads in recent weeks in her matches with Sasha Banks and now in this bout versus Paige. This was without a doubt the best matchup I have seen on Main Event in quite some time and I was happy they received the time they did to contest the match they were capable of having. Paige has always been excellent, but this was a breakout performance for Naomi and her winning was just the icing on the cake. Seriously, check this match out. If you weren't sold on Naomi's potential before, you should be after watching this. |
