Alex Kane Won Battle Riot to Earn an MLW World Heavyweight Championship OpportunityMLW tends to do a good job with these Battle Riot matches and this was another entertaining installment on the whole. The surprise entrants (Duke "The Dumpster" Droese, Snitsky and the former Ricardo Rodriguez) were especially fun. There weren't many stories told at all, but it did pick up down the stretch when the bigger stars were left. Kane and Davey Boy Smith Jr. have been feuding for a while now, so Kane tapping him out to win was a fitting finish. The crowd were happy with the outcome, so we'll see if Kane sticks as a babyface. I didn't think of him as a potential challenger for Alexander Hammerstone, but it makes sense as he's been built up nicely and they should have a great match. My only nitpick of Battle Riot this year was the heavy emphasis on The Calling. They're just not that interesting so far.

The Family def. Pretty Deadly in a Trunk MatchThe stipulation was exactly what it suggests: you had to throw both of your opponents in the back of a car trunk in order to win. The gimmicky stuff for Tony D'Angelo and Channing Lorenzo continues, but they made it work and the crowd was into it. All in all, an enjoyable opener. Pretty Deadly losing combined with them being "killed off" at the end of the episode all but confirms they're headed to either Raw or SmackDown in the WWE Draft.
Harley Cameron def. MafiosaCameron has wrestled on Dark before, but these days she's a part of the QTV crap with QT Marshall and company. I'd pull the plug on that now that Powerhouse Hobbs is no longer AEW TNT Champion, though it's not like it should have ever been given the green light to begin with. She seems to be competent in the ring as this was fine for what it was. I'm curious if this was a one-off in the ring for her or she'll be wrestling more as part of her new gimmick.
The SVGS def. Daisy Kill and Talos to Qualify for the 2023 Crockett CupDespite coming up short of beating The Country Gentlemen for the NWA United States Tag Team Championship at NWA 312, their pursuit of the tag titles apparently isn't over based on a recent angle (which I believe aired on NWA USA if I'm not mistaken). It was also logical for them to qualify for the Crockett Cup, so this was a predictable win for them. The match itself was whatever as Kill and Talos haven't been all that impressive in the NWA so far, but at least it accomplished what it needed to.
Cody Rhodes Challenged Finn BalorThis was the WWE opening segment specialty: Rhodes came out addressing the audience, Balor interrupted him, and Rhodes challenged him to a match. There really wasn't much else to it, but the mic work was solid and it accomplished what it needed to, so I have no complaints. Balor going out alone was interesting, leaving me to wonder if WWE is preparing to split The Judgment Day in the WWE Draft.
