John Cena collides with Daniel Bryan on "Miz TV".
By Graham "GSM" Matthews Wade Barrett def. Daniel Bryan with Brad Maddox as the Special Guest Referee Once again, the match between Bryan and Barrett was cut short and should have gone on longer than it did. I probably sound like a broken record by this point, but it's mind-boggling to me that WWE doesn't allow these two to go out and have an excellent match like they did at 2011's SummerSlam. If nothing else, it was nice to see Barrett score a victory for once, even if it was due to a fast count from Maddox. Randy Orton def. Damien Sandow Similar to their SmackDown match from a few weeks ago, Sandow held his own against Orton and scored enough offense to look strong in defeat. That being said, it was exactly the same match we witnessed the first time around. Cody Rhodes distracted Sandow from ringside and cost him the match, so this was nothing new. Speaking of Rhodes, his commentary was strange, but at least it helped hype his upcoming match with Sandow.

By Graham "GSM" Matthews Kenny King def. Petey Williams and Sonjay Dutt in a Triple Threat Match X-Division matches always make for the best openers, so this bout was perfectly placed. It fast-paced throughout and featured a lot of fun action. I enjoy all three of these talents, so they all had something to offer in this contest that kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time. I'm glad we got to see the Canadian Destroyer, and King picking up the victory shortly thereafter was fine by me. I'm not at all a fan of the three-way format for the X-Division, but this was a rare exception. On a side note, it is mind-boggling to me that Dutt has never been an X-Division Champion. I hope to see him win the belt at least once down the line. Velvet Sky def. Gail Kim Sky has never been the best in-ring worker, but she's always been brought to a good match by Kim in the past. However, this match was never really able to get out of first gear and seemed to end rather abruptly. It was decent for what it was, but it was over before it really got started. If nothing else, the video package recapping their two year long feud was well done and helped make the match feel somewhat important.
Rob Van Dam nails Randy Orton with a vicious kick.
By Graham "GSM" Matthews Randy Orton def. Rob Van Dam This is a marquee match, so it's a shame is wasn't advertised in advance. I was a bit disappointed that the commentators didn't mention the fact that it was Orton who took out RVD back in 2007, but I was happy with them mentioning how Orton cost the one-of-a-kind competitor the Money in the Bank briefcase at last month's pay-per-view. I always love when a match kicks off a show rather than a promo, so that was a nice touch. The action was extremely exciting as expected and was filled with many fun reversals and counters. The final few minutes were very suspenseful with the finishing sequence being very well done. I initially hoped to see these two clash at SummerSlam, which could still be possible seeing how neither Superstar has a match set in stone for the event at this time. The Miz Hosted "Miz TV" with Divas Champion AJ Lee and Big E Langston AJ's mic work was decent and it was probably best for her to do all the talking for Langston. Dolph Ziggler's interference was pretty predictable, as was Kaitlyn's. Their exchange with AJ and Langston was fine for what it was, but it was thankfully kept short and sweet. The Miz also played his role here and wasn't completely pointless. It was only a matter of time before the mixed tag team match was confirmed for SummerSlam, so I guess it was better late than never.
TNA World Champion Chris Sabin and Kurt Angle win.
By Graham "GSM" Matthews TNA World Heavyweight Champion Chris Sabin and Bully Ray Signed a Contract Aside from one lousy joke, Chris Sabin had a good promo in the opening segment. He had an enjoyable exchange with Bully Ray, which unsurpisingly led to Brooke Hogan coming out. She wasn't as bad on the mic as expected, but the fact Ray won't receive another title shot if he loses next week's Steel Cage match essentially gave away the finish of the bout. Nonetheless, this was a decent segment as a whole, but uninspiring to say the least. Jeff Hardy def. Samoa Joe to Earn 7 Points in the Bound For Glory Series These two have had classic matches in the past, so I was a bit disappointed by this bout. It picked up steam towards the end, but ended rather abruptly. Even still, both competitors put forth a strong effort and did their best to make this contest as memorable as possible. Mr. Anderson costing Joe the victory was logical in the sense that The Main Event Mafia currently has the most points in the Series. |
