Toni Storm def. Charlie MorganStorm has been off the show since seemingly suffering an injury during her NXT UK Women's Championship match against Rhea Ripley last month, so it was good to have her back here. She didn't miss a beat whatsoever. This was essentially a showcase for her, so while it wasn't terribly thrilling, it served a purpose and succeeded in getting Storm back on track. Zack Gibson and James Drake def. Mark Andrews and Flash Morgan WebsterIt looks like Andrews and Webster, along with Gibson and Drake, are going to be entering the tag team ranks with the NXT UK Tag Team Championship set to be instituted soon. I'm all for that because of how well they work together and with their opponents. This was a prime example of that, as this was a terrific tag team match with strong showings from all involved. Fabian Aichner interfering to cost Andrews and Webster the victory (after they had done something similar to him a few weeks ago) was a nice touch, too.

Jordan Devlin def. "Wild Boar" Mike HitchmanDevlin has quickly become one of my favorite performers on the NXT UK brand. He's coming into his own as a heel and is extremely fluid in the ring. This was clearly designed to serve as a showcase for Devlin, so not only did it put him over effectively, it was also a fun little opener. Since Devlin has already contended for the WWE United Kingdom Championship (and lost), I'm interested to see what's next for him. Fabian Aichner def. Eddie RyanAichner is still doing that gimmick where he shakes his opponent hand to start out before getting dirty down the stretch. He's such a blast to watch in the ring and this was another enjoyable outing from him. This was mostly a straightforward squash to get Aichner back on track following his recent loss to Flash Morgan Webster. I look forward to him becoming a bigger star on the brand in due time.
#AskGSM Edition #264: Latest NXT Call-ups, Best WWE 2018 Pay-Per-Views, Marvel Movies, More12/19/2018 #AskGSM is a weekly Q&A video where I, Graham "GSM" Matthews answer fan questions from Facebook, Twitter and YouTube in regards to the world of wrestling. Nothing is off limits, and this week’s edition touches upon a variety of topics including:
The Twisted Sisters def. Madison Rayne and Britt BakerI don't believe Baker has been officially signed by Ring of Honor yet, but if not, she would be a good get for their Women of Honor division. While this match served zero purpose from a storyline standpoint, it was well-wrestled and decent while it lasted. The Twisted Sisters going over was interesting, if only because they aren't full-time with ROH. I'm sure it won't matter in the long-run, but this was a nice little opener. ROH World Champion Jay Lehal, ROH World Television Champion Jeff Cobb, ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Champion Vinny Marseglia, Cheeseburger and Rhett Titus def. ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Champion Matt Taven, Marty Scurll, Jonathan Gresham and The Bouncers in a Christmas Surprise MatchThe "Christmas Surprise" match has been a staple of ROH's annual holiday show for years and I've loved the hell out of it every time it's been held. Sure, it doesn't factor into anything storyline-wise, but it didn't need to and I always enjoy the lighthearted nature of it. The fact the members of each team were "random" made it that much more fun and allowed for some fresh matchups. This was a blast throughout and the "Merry Christmas" chants brought joy to my heart.
SmackDown Women's Champion Asuka def. NaomiIn addition to addressing Ronda Rousey's actions at TLC, Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair demanded another shot at the SmackDown Women's Championship, but Mr. McMahon granted Naomi a title match instead. Asuka and Naomi have been on-and-off tag team partners for months, but they have never been opponents until this show. Thus, this felt fresh and I was happy it received an ample amount of time. It was an enjoyable encounter, even if the outcome was never in doubt. Jeff Hardy Attacked Samoa JoeThis segment was advertised as Joe issuing Hardy an "apology" for targeting his past demons, but instead it turned into a solid verbal exchange between the two. It didn't last long at all, but it did its job of furthering the feud and giving Hardy the edge over Joe for once. They'll go one-on-one on next week's edition of SmackDown Live, though I'm sure that won't be the end of it, either (nor should it be).
