NWA Powerrr Review - February 6, 2024

NWA World Tag Team Champions Blunt Force Trauma def. Tim Storm and Jax Dane

On paper, longtime rivals Storm and Dane putting their differences aside and joining forces seemed like an interesting idea. However, it probably should have happened a few years ago because this was slow, plodding and not very good. Storm was holding his own as recently as a few years ago, but it's clear he shouldn't be in the ring at this point. It doesn't help that Blunt Force Trauma aren't very interesting and that there are better teams who could be holding those belts.

NWA World Women's Champion Kenzie Paige def. Tiffany Nieves

Nieves won a match on Powerrr not too long ago and may have cut a promo as well hyping up this match. I honestly don't remember because it was at least a month ago, but at least she was built up a bit before getting this opportunity. Granted, she was never going to win, but I thought she had a solid showing and that the match itself was solid. Paige continues to evolve into the total package, which is wild considering she's still super young.

NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion EC3 def. Matt Cardona in an Ultimate Match of Death

NWA doesn't do deathmatches often, so while they're typically not my cup of tea, I was fine with it in this case, especially with Cardona being a deathmatch specialist and the stipulation being in his favor. To their credit, they made it work and had quite the hardcore spectacle that the crowd certainly enjoyed. This was a fitting main event for the first power on The CW app, though it was a bummer that the entire second half of the match was in black and white due to the blood.

Overall Show

Powerrr took a month-long hiatus ahead of its big debut on The CW this week, so I liked how they loaded up this episode with three title matches. Granted, the opener was pretty abysmal, but the women had a quality contest and the main event definitely stood out. They've also improved their production levels, which was cool to see. I also liked how multiple matches were advertised for next week. This was a thumbs-up "premiere" for Powerrr.
