Ring of Honor Review - April 11, 2024

Action Andretti def. Isiah Kassidy

I believe this marked Kassidy's Ring of Honor debut. Private Party got off to a solid start upon returning to the tag team ranks, but that momentum quickly dissipated, so having them work matches in ROH for now isn't a bad thing. This was a fun opener between him and Andretti. Perhaps this happened because Private Party has been feuding with Top Flight on and off for a few months, but I might be putting too much thought into it.

Shane Taylor Promotions (Shane Taylor and Lee Moriarty) def. Kaz Jordan and Julian Ward

It's been cool to see Shane Taylor Promotions wrestling on AEW TV more as of late, even though they've lost a majority of their matches (except for Wednesday's Dynamite when they shockingly beat Katsuyori Shibata and LionHook in six-man tag team action). This was a decisive win for them as it should have been, though I don't see it amounting to much with the current ROH World Tag Team Champions also being heels.

Nyla Rose def. Kat Von Heez

This was your average squash from Rose. She didn't have any direction after failing to beat Athena for the ROH Women's World Championship and it still feels like she's treading water, but at least now there's an ROH Women's World Television Championship match she can contend for. Then again, she won't dethrone Billie Starkz this early in her run, so I assume she'll be stuck doing nothing but squashes for the foreseeable future.

Christopher Daniels def. Cole Karter

Karter and Griff Garrison finally finished their feud with Spanish Announce Project by beating them on the Supercard of Honor Zero Hour pre-show, so on the very next show, Karter loses to Daniels? It doesn't make any sense, but hey, Karter and Garrison bore me to tears, so I was satisfied with the result. It was a well-wrestled match while it lasted. Daniels continues to help the younger talent simply by working with them.

The Righteous def. Bryce Donovan and Chico Adams

I love The Righteous, but they've been spinning their wheels for so long that I have no expectation of them being utilized in a meaningful manner ever again. It's a shame, but they're clearly not a priority to Tony Khan. They can win matches like this against local losers, but it won't matter until they beat actual competition. Similar to Shane Taylor Promotions, I don't see them entering ROH World Tag Team Championship contention anytime soon, but can they not feud with another team for now?

Anna Jay def. LMK

Jay is doing a whole lot of nothing right now despite appearing pretty regularly on AEW and ROH TV. She's won a handful of matches but never seems to win when it matters most. I can't recall the last time she got promo time, so in other words, she's just existing these days. If nothing else, she's getting reps in, so there's that. This served as a standard showcase to give her another win.

Zak Knight def. Alvin Alvarez

Knight started out on ROH TV but has found himself on Rampage as of late in the never-ending storyline with Angelo Parker, Ruby Soho and Saraya. He'll finally face Parker tomorrow night on Rampage, so this served as a warm-up of sorts for him before then and was kept brief. As I've said in the past, he's impressed me in the ring, but the stuff with Parker has been beyond boring and has gone on for way too long.

ROH World Television Champion Kyle Fletcher def. Rhett Titus

It was funny seeing Titus compete in the main event of ROH TV one day after acting as a bodyguard/extra on Dynamite. Why even bother putting him out there for stuff like that? Despite the fact he didn't receive a televised entrance here and wasn't a threat to Fletcher, he is a former ROH World Television Champion, so it was cool that he got this opportunity. There wasn't anything out of the ordinary about this, but it was another decisive title defense for Fletcher, nonetheless.

Overall Show

This was a fine follow-up show to Supercard of Honor last weekend. The events are excellent, but ROH TV remains a chore to watch most weeks. That's the way it's been since ROH TV relaunched on Honor Club last year, so it's hardly worth complaining about at this point. There is absolutely nothing worth seeking out from this episode, but on the bright side, I appreciated that it was just over an hour long.
