TNA iMPACT! Review - April 25, 2024

The System Interrupted Nic Nemeth and "Broken" Matt Hardy

Nemeth started the show talking about he felt "broken" following his failure to beat Moose for the TNA World Championship at Rebellion and that brought out Hardy, who showed footage of Nemeth's shoulder being up when Moose pinned him. I honestly didn't catch that when it happened, so Nemeth has a claim to a rematch eventually. The System played their part perfectly fine in this segment, setting up Nemeth vs. Eddie Edwards for the night's main event. TNA probably shouldn't have advertised Nemeth vs. Edwards for this episode in advance in order to make this announcement feel more organic.

Mike Santana def. Myron Reed

We know Santana has officially signed with TNA, but what about Reed? I haven't seen anything about his status (unless I missed it). He's a member of The Rascalz at this point, so I'd be shocked if he doesn't stick around. At any rate, he and Santana had a good match. Before The Rascalz and Maclin could drop Santana afterward, The Rascalz bailed on Maclin, so that alliance is over. I'm glad Maclin has re-signed with TNA as well, but is he just going to be the gatekeeper for all of the TNA newcomers/returning stars?

Josh Alexander def. Frankie Kazarian

Alexander made his intentions clear to go back after the TNA World Championship when Kazarian interrupted and said he also has the title in his sights. That led to an impromptu bout between the two while they were still in their street clothes, which was a nice touch. They ended up having a solid match. Alexander won after Eric Young cost Kazarian the victory. Does that rivalry really need to continue? And what can they do to top their Full Metal Mayhem matchup from Rebellion?

Joe Hendry Interrupted First Class

This was a pretty basic segment with First Class boasting about getting the better of Hendry followed by Hendry coming out and saying that he owes them an apology. Obviously, he'll have something else up his sleeve considering he said he'd save the apology for next week instead of just doing it here. The feud's been going on since January, so how much more can they do to keep it interesting?

Xia Brookside def. Ash by Elegance

This marked Elegance's first loss since coming to TNA. I thought she'd go undefeated before inevitably challenging Jordynne Grace for the TNA Knockouts World Championship, but apparently they're not ready for that feud here and Ash needed another rival in the meantime to keep her busy. This was servicable while it lasted and the "upset" win makes Brookside more than just a stepping stone for other women in the division.

Sami Callihan def. The Good Hands in a 2-on-1 Handicap Match

Callihan returned to TNA at Rebellion, randomly during the Knockouts title match. I like Callihan, but I have no idea what there's left for him to do in the company at this point. Either AEW wasn't interested or he didn't want to get lost in the shuffle over there because that always seemed like the likely landing spot for him. Despite the odds technically being stacked against him, this was a one-sided squash for Callihan as it should have been.

TNA World Tag Team Champion Eddie Edwards def. Nic Nemeth

You put two seasoned veterans in there and you're guaranteed to get a top-notch main event like we did here. It was a logical follow-up to Nemeth losing to Edwards' System stablemate Moose and I assumed Nemeth would rebound with a win here, so the outcome was unexpected. Not only that, but The System took Nemeth out afterward by attacking him with a chair. It felt like a way to write Nemeth off for the next several weeks, but as of now, he's still scheduled to team with Speedball Mountain against The System at Under Siege.

Overall Show

I have no idea why TNA yet again booked a TNA Plus live special two weeks after a pay-per-view. I appreciated that they already announced a few matches for that event, but none of them feel remotely important. It's the definition of a thrown-together card and it also affects the weekly show until then. This was an adequate episode that reset the deck and featured some decent action and storyline progression.
