WWE Main Event Review - December 21, 2023

Indi Hartwell def. Elektra Lopez

Okay, this was Lopez' third consecutive appearance on Main Event. We've been getting different male NXT stars in action, but Lopez keeps getting brought back. That has to mean they have their sights set on calling her up soon, right? I don't think she's ready from an in-ring standpoint, but as I've said before, I'd be fine with her reuniting with Santos Escobar as his manager on SmackDown. This match was decent and could have been worse. Hartwell's finisher looked better than it did the last few times I've seen it.

Apollo Crews def. Brooks Jensen

Jensen was an interesting choice to give the spotlight to this week seeing as how I wouldn't consider him a singles star on the rise. Then again, that might be imminent based on comments he's made toward his tag team partner Josh Briggs in recent weeks on NXT TV. He's a competent performer but not on the level as many others NXT currently has on its roster. He held his own against the talented Crews, but this was fairly bland and didn't have anything out of the ordinary about it.

Overall Show

A show featuring matches with Lopez and Jensen is not my definition of a quality episode. No offense to them, but they aren't the most exciting to watch in the ring and thus their matches were average at best. All in all, it was an adequate edition of Main Event. I'm all for using the show as a platform for NXT stars to improve and get exposure, but there are plenty of other people from the black-and-yellow brand I'd rather see showcased than them.
