WWE Main Event Review - January 11, 2024

Bronson Reed def. Javier Bernal

Reed continues to rack up victories. I would ask where if these wins are actually leading anywhere or if he's just treading water on Main Event, but we found out during Monday's Raw that apparently he's set to feud with Jey Uso based on their backstage confrontation. At any rate, this was a pretty straightforward squash for Reed. Bernal works well as an enhancement guy, but he's better as a heel and had to be the babyface here.

Duke Hudson def. Myles Borne

This was the definition of a match you'd see on NXT Level Up. I've enjoyed getting to see fresh faces from NXT pop on Main Event over the last year, but Hudson and Borne are not two of NXT's bigger stars in the slightest, so I question the decision to put them against each other. They had a fairly basic bout and the crowd didn't care, but Hudson did his best to fire them up. Borne has potential and should benefit from being aligned with the extremely experienced Drew Gulak.

Overall Show

This the first time in several weeks that we got NXT Superstars in action and it wasn't the strongest show by Main Event standards. Reed vs. Bernal was it what needed to be, but it would've been nice if we got a hotter match on this show to make up for the squash. Instead, Hudson vs. Bernal had a match that would've been perfect as a main event on Level Up but fell flat in front of this crowd. There just wasn't anything out of the ordinary about it, so it turned out to be a mediocre episode on the whole.
