WWE Main Event Review - July 13, 2023

Natalya def. Xia Li

Byron Saxton mentioned on commentary beforehand that Natalya has had over 1,500 televised matches in WWE, which I find incredibly hard to believe. Even if she had wrestled twice every week (Raw/SmackDown and the occasional pay-per-view) in the last 15 years, the match still doesn't add up. Nonetheless, this was a decent match, but Li feels like a lost cause at this point. This win allowed Natalya to rebound after failing to beat Rhea Ripley for the Women's World Championship last week on Raw.

Indi Hartwell def. Dana Brooke

This marked Hartwell's first "televised" singles match since joining the Raw roster. I thought she was still injured because of how quickly she and Candice LeRae were eliminated from last week's Tag Team Turmoil match, but apparently not. In that case, why the hell haven't we seen more of the NXT Women's Champion yet? Putting her in there with Brooke didn't allow her to really show what she can do, especially with both of them being babyfaces, but this was fine albeit boring. I wish Hartwell won more decisively, but at least she dominated a majority of the match and it was the right result. LeRae was ringside for Hartwell. 

Overall Show

We haven't gotten an all-women's edition of Main Event in about a month or so, but it was cool to see them spotlighted here. Raw has a deep women's roster, but most of them don't appear regularly on Monday nights. Hartwell is also the third NXT call-up in the 2023 WWE Draft to appear on Main Event recently with Apollo Crews and JD McDonagh being the other two. Why bother calling them up at that point if there's currently no plans for them? This was a middle-of-the-road show that featured another two fresh matches, but neither of them stood out at all.
