WWE NXT Level Up Review - January 19, 2024

Scrypts def. Brooks Jensen

This was a rare instance of a Level Up match that could've gone either way. Scrypts has gotten more television time lately alongside OTM, and Jensen is now flying solo without Josh Briggs and Fallon Henley. Level Up is where Jensen belongs for now. I honestly don't care for either of them, but I thought they had a decent match. To his credit, Scrypts' new finisher looks sweet (even if it's basically a modified Lethal Injection).

Jacy Jane def. Carlee Bright

I believe this marked Bright's debut as I don't recall seeing her in action before. Unsurprisingly, she's one of the new NIL athletes and is incredibly green. We didn't see enough from her to get a grasp of what she's capable at this stage, but it was probably for the best that this was kept on the shorter side as I'm not confident Jane would've been able to carry her to a competent contest. This was what it needed to be.

No Quarter Catch Crew (Damon Kemp and Charlie Dempsey) def. Tank Ledger and Hank Walker

I liked how we didn't know who would be representing No Quarter Catch Crew until the bell rang. They're a good group who can gel with experienced opponents and help the lesser-experienced talents as well. Kemp and Dempsey dominated a majority of the match before going over decisively as they should have. We got some hard-hitting action and Ledger and Walker continue to develop more and more chemistry as partners.

Overall Show

This was a solid edition of Level Up. Scrypts vs. Jensen was passable, the women's match was essentially a squash, and the main event was well worked. I have no complaints. I'd like to see the show follow this formula more often because it's never a wise idea to have the rookies face off with each other. The match quality suffers and no one really benefits, whereas what we got on this episode made sense with it featuring the leftovers from NXT TV.
