WWE NXT Level Up Review - June 23, 2023

Channing "Stacks" Lorenzo def. Kale Dixon

I've been digging the little singles push Lorenzo has been getting in Tony D'Angelo's absence. He's been getting more reps on his own and has been having solid performances. Dixon continues to come off as generic, but he held his own here and they had a decent match. We're no closer to finding out who ratted off D'Angelo and put him behind bars, making me think there's a good chance it will end up being Stacks himself.

Luca Crusifino def. Tavion Heights

We saw Crusifino wrestle on NXT TV that one time where he beat Von Wager by disqualification and there wasn't a rematch as I expected there would be. Maybe there will be eventually, but I think we're past that point, leaving me to wonder why Crusifino is being built up on Level Up. He's a fine worker, but the lawyer gimmick is still one-dimensional and I see more potential in Heights. This was passable, but the crowd didn't seem to care.

Jacy Jane def. Ivy Nile

Wasn't this set up on NXT TV recently, or was that Jane and Lyra Valkyria? I can't remember. Either way, it was refreshing to get a main event on this show that could have easily happened on NXT TV. That isn't to say it was a barn burner by any means, but it had some star power (by Level Up standards) and they had a well-worked match. Jane lost her feud-ending match with Gigi Dolin last month and thus it made sense for her to get back on track with a win here.

Overall Show

This was a strange show because I appreciated that we got some bigger names in action between Jane, Nile and Lorenzo, but none of the matches stood out in any way. The bar for wrestling on this developmental show is not very high, but you'd think we'd get better matches this week given who was in action. It didn't help that the crowd was a little less lively than usual, so it was merely an episode that existed.
