WWE NXT Level Up Review - May 3, 2024

Eddy Thorpe def. Kale Dixon

I always forget Thorpe is on the roster until I see him pop up on Level Up. He clearly fell out of favor with officials because he went from winning feuds with Damon Kemp and Dijak on NXT TV to completely disappearing in the new year. Being relegated to Level Up isn't exactly an encouraging sign for his future, but at least he's still winning matches. This was solid but featured nothing out of the ordinary.

Kelani Jordan def. Kendal Grey

It would be nice if we heard from Grey one of these weeks so we can get to know more about her. As of now, she comes off as an incredibly generic enhancement talent despite being decent in the ring. Jordan is much more of a prospect in my opinion. She has the natural athletic ability and has that underdog aura about her. This was a passable match, though the finish felt a tad abrupt.

Je'Von Evans def. Riley Osborne

This was going to be a blast of a main event given the level of talent between the two and they did not disappoint. We don't see this sort of stuff on Level Up often, so I thoroughly enjoyed it. They had a super fun outing, and although Evans seemed to shine more than Osborne did, they had great chemistry, regardless. Evans has built momentum on NXT TV with his win over Scrypts in his debut followed by taking Ilja Dragunov to the limit, so sky's the limit for him.

Overall Show

The main event alone made this a thumbs-up edition of Level Up. That was one of the best bouts on the program in recent memory and I'd like to see matches of that caliber more often, even though I'm well aware that Level Up is intended to be a showcase for the developmental talent. The rest of this show was serviceable and along the lines of what you'd expect, but only Evans vs. Osborne is worth checking out.
