The Family def. Chase U (Andre Chase and Duke Hudson) to Win the NXT Tag Team Championship

I have absolutely no clue where they're headed with Chase U and the tag team division. They won the titles only a few weeks ago in what was a big moment, but now they're teasing some sort of a controversy and the Chase U section in the crowd walked out on them during this. Thee match was solid, but I feel like I'm missing something (though I know the idea is to build suspense for what's going on with Chase). The Family's first reign was uneventful, so hopefully they have better luck this time.

The Meta-Four Hosted The Supernova Sessions with Alpha Academy and Akira Tozawa

Is Tozawa technically a member of Alpha Academy now? He might be, but I don't think they've made that official. At any rate, I'm usually not a fan of anything involving The Meta-Four and this was no exception. I'm sure they're having fun out there, but I can't say I find any of their stuff entertaining, but at least this set up a match between Chad Gable and Noam Dar for the NXT Heritage Cup Championship next week. The question is, will Gable win the title? And if he's not, why have him lose to Dar?

Lash Legend def. Roxanne Perez to Qualify for the Women's Iron Survivor Challenge Match at Deadline

Legend is still far from great in the ring, so putting her in there with someone as experienced as Perez is probably her best bet at having a competent contest. This was decent enough and luckily didn't last longer than it needed to. I assumed Perez advancing was a slam dunk, but Kiana James cost her the victory to further that feud. Perez won last year's Iron Survivor Challenge for the women, so putting Legend in there over is a questionable call. Fingers crossed she can win a possible "last chance" match because Perez vs. James doesn't feel premium live event-worthy and it'd be a bummer for Perez to miss the show.

Trick Williams def. Joe Coffey to Qualify for the Men's Iron Survivor Challenge Match at Deadline

I'm all for Joe Coffey becoming the centerpiece of Gallus now that the other two have lost the NXT Tag Team Championship (though I realize that was months ago). The issue is that the group is boring as a whole. He would've been a nice fit for the Iron Survivor Challenge match, but Williams made more sense to advance with the momentum he has right now. Carmelo Hayes was in his corner and he helped Williams combat the rest of Gallus at ringside. This was a good matchup.

The Brawling Brutes (Butch and Ridge Holland) def. OTM

I figured we would've seen the last of The Brawling Brutes in NXT after their win over Gallus last month, but apparently not. I'm honestly not sure what they have to accomplish in NXT, but I suppose it's better than them continuing to loss to Pretty Deadly on SmackDown. Of course, they can lend experience to OTM simply by working with them, but there's a ton of room for improvement with OTM. They're still very, very green and that was evident in this outing, but it was okay otherwise.

Gigi Dolin def. Arianna Grace

Grace is doing well with the pageant character so far. She needs work in the ring, but the character stuff will at least help her stand out in the meantime. She feels like NXT's equivalent of Chelsea Green (though I realize Green appeared on NXT just two weeks ago). There was nothing out of the ordinary about this, but it did manage to get both women on the show. My guess is that Dolin will end up in a Iron Survivor Challenge qualifier soon.

Baron Corbin def. Wes Lee

This marked Lee's first bout back since returning to television two weeks. Obviously, him losing isn't ideal, but Corbin will be challenging for the NXT Championship at Deadline and thus him winning was more important (not to mention Dominik Mysterio cost Lee the victory). This was a fun main event as they worked really well together. Corbin always has quality chemistry with smaller opponents. Corbin vs. Ilja Dragunov for the NXT title was made official for Deadline and Corbin's End of Days to Dragunov was a thing of beauty.

Overall Show

Slowly but surely, the card for Deadline is coming together. My guess is that we'll get the two Iron Survivor Challenge matches, Dragunov vs. Corbin, Mysterio vs. Lee, and one more match. Lyra Valkyria vs. Xia Li for the NXT Women's Championship is happening on next week's episode, so I get the feeling Valkyria won't be defending her title at the event. Nonetheless, this was an adequate edition of NXT. The tag titles changing hands again was notable and I dug the main event. There wasn't a lot in the middle that landed for me, but at least the build for Deadline was well done.
