NXT Women's Champion Roxanne Perez def. Tatum Paxley and Lyra Valkyria in a Triple Threat Match

I was surprised when Perez won the NXT Women's Championship at Stand & Deliver, but I fully expected her to lose it here without getting pinned so she could be drafted to either Raw or SmackDown. Well, they surprised me again by having her retain. Maybe she won't get drafted after all, and if that's the case, why would she declare for it and why would neither brand want her? Nonetheless, this was a great Triple Threat where they worked a consistent pace throughout and a nicely-executed finish. Props to Paxley for a very impressive performance and proving she belonged in there.

The D'Angelo Family (Tony D'Angelo, Channing "Stacks" Lorenzo and Luca Crusifino) def. No Quarter Catch Crew (NXT Heritage Cup Champion Charlie Dempsey, Damon Kemp and Myles Borne)

D'Angelo going from challenging the NXT Championship at Stand & Deliver to feuding with No Quarter Catch Crew is quite the downgrade. I like No Quarter Catch Crew, but they're slotted at the NXT Heritage Cup Championship level and D'Angelo should be above that. For what it was, this was a solid six-man tag team match, and D'Angelo pinning Dempsey should set him up for a title shot soon.

Jaida Parker def. Fallon Henley

Parker continues to be featured fairly regularly on NXT TV, and I question aggressively pushing her before she's in-ring ready. She isn't awful and she's shown signs of potential, but I don't know if I would have put her over Henley at this stage, someone who should have moved closer to championship contention by now. Maybe she's main roster bound? This was passable but probably didn't need almost seven minutes.

Natalya and Karmen Petrovic Attacked Lola Vice and Shayna Baszler

This was a contract signing for next week's NXT Underground match between Natalya and Vice. Their verbal exchange was serviceable, but I think most people were just waiting to see who Vice would reveal as being in her corner for NXT Underground. Baszler was hardly a shocking selection, but she makes total sense given the stipulation. Having her at ringside makes me more interested in that match than I would have been otherwise.

Sol Ruca def. Blair Davenport in a Beach Brawl

This was basically a No Disqualification match with beach-themed weapons (which was right in Ruca's wheelhouse). Davenport had at least two other matches like this last year, so she was the perfect opponent for Ruca in this environment. They got a little too cute with some of the stuff they did, but on the whole, this was a well-worked matchup. Ruca hitting her first springboard Sol Snatcher was an awesome visual.

Lexis King def. Baron Corbin

Corbin is officially without direction now that his tag team partner is exclusive to SmackDown (or wherever he ends up in the Draft). I'd be down for him sticking around in NXT, but a return to the main roster isn't out of the question, either. I mean, he lost to Lexis King, who barely beats anybody, so that has to be some sort of a sign, right? This was okay and was wisely kept relatively brief.

Trick Williams def. Ilja Dragunov to Win the NXT Championship

WWE/NXT/Shawn Michaels really went the extra mile to make this feel like as big of a deal as possible with main stars showing up throughout the night to endorse both wrestlers, the pre-match interviews backstage, and everything else. Biggest NXT main event ever? I don't know if I'd go that far, but this was still a great match (albeit a notch or two below their Vengeance Day encounter). Williams is more than holding his own in these high-caliber matches and Dragunov is obviously excellent. Williams' win came off wonderfully and it made for an incredible moment to close the show.

Overall Show

Night 1 of Spring Breakin' was a success for the opening and closing matches alone. Everything else in the middle was what you'd expect from your typical edition of NXT TV, but it was an enjoyable show on the whole. Williams winning the NXT Championship was a given, but will Perez stay put in NXT after all? I am very curious to see what NXT looks like post-Draft, how they intend to replenish the pot and if that includes any current main roster stars making the jump to Tuesday nights.
