2018 is a very interesting year to be a wrestling fan. With matches such as Okada vs. Tanahashi, Zabre Jr. vs. Okada, Gargano vs. Almas, there sure isn’t any shortage whatsoever of great wrestling available to watch. And much like some of its top superstars, NXT has broken onto the scene as one of the most exciting promotions to watch, with some of their superstars easily out-performing their expectations and showing that they deserve a main roster call-up spot, I figure I should throw my hat into the mix as to who I think should be called up next. Here is my list of four NXT superstars who are next in line to be called up to the main roster. Note: This list is in no particular order. Aleister BlackTommy End met his, well, end.... But a new man rose from the grave, and his name is Aleister Black. Black’s ring entrance is one all too reminiscent of The Undertaker circa Ministry of Darkness, and he is the cult following anti-hero that WWE so desperately needs. Currently the guy in NXT, having won the NXT Championship from Andrade “Cien” Almas at TakeOver: New Orleans, he is definitely showing immense potential to be called up pretty much any moment now. Johnny GarganoThis name shouldn’t really come as a surprise to anyone. Johnny Gargano, having had two of the best wrestling matches of 2018 so far (Gargano vs. Ciampa is probably the best street fight since early ECW), Johnny Gargano is the name on every NXT fan’s lips right now. Every single week, we, as WWE faithful, are treated to something that hasn’t happened in a while, and probably won’t happen after this for a long, long time: a superstar who gives it their all, leaves everything in the ring, and is solely dedicated to their craft and their craft only, and will stop at nothing to ensure that nobody gets in his way. Pete DunneIt’s been awhile since wrestling fans have had a classic British heel (names like Big Daddy from back in the '70s, best known for his legendary feud with Giant Haystacks, as well as Lord Alfred Hayes and William/Steven/Lord Steven Regal come to mind). While Pete Dunne isn’t even close to the size of any of these men, he sure as hell makes up for it in the ring. The Bruiserweight brings us back to the Peaky Blinders era streets of Brixton, what with the manipulation of the fingers, the classic mouthguard, his entire overall look, and the better strong style wrestling style (yes, British Strong Style is better, they’re the ones that started it). Personally I would love to see PROGRESS sign with WWE as their UK division: the possibilities there are really endless. RicochetMoving to the last entry on my list, we’ve got arguably the most exciting high-flyer in NXT right now, Ricochet. He made his debut at the ripe young age of 15, for Chaos Pro Wrestling, but got his first big break when he signed with Chikara in 2006. On June 25th of that year, he teamed along with Ottawa wrestling star Player Uno. After this, he made his way around the world, before finding himself in New Japan, in 2013. His best showing here, was at 2014 Best of the Super Juniors, making it all the way to the semis, with 5 wins and 2 losses. In WWE since January 16th, 2018, it’s only a matter of time before Ricochet tears it up on Monday nights.
