AEW TNT Champion Adam Copeland def. Matt CardonaEverything about this was awesome. This was the return of Copeland's open challenge gimmick after he won the AEW TNT Championship on last Wednesday's Dynamite. Members of the roster previously accepted, so Cardona coming out was a really cool surprise given their history from many years ago. The crowd seemed to agree based on the reaction it got, too. They worked wonderfully together and Cardona was made to look on Copeland's level. Malakai Black confronted Copeland afterward and you can sign me the hell up for that eventual match. Tony Schiavone Interviewed AEW World Trios Champions The Acclaimed and Billy GunnThis was definitely an improvement than the promo The Acclaimed cut on the stage on last week's Rampage, but I still can't get into their feud with Bullet Club Gold. Jay White is undoubtedly above this crap. The mic work was fine and I appreciate the effort to build toward the inevitable six-man tag team match, but I'd rather they get it over with soon and move on. We found out White vs. Gunn will happen on Wednesday's Dynamite. Oh joy. FTR def. The Infantry in an AEW World Tag Team Championship Tournament Quarterfinal MatchThe Infantry scored the big upset over House of Black in the wild card match, but they couldn't get past FTR here. That said, this was easily the best match I've ever seen them have. It was quite the competitive contest and the crowd was into the action as well. It's all about the aftermath with The Infantry from here, something Tony Khan has struggled with in the past. I'd love to see FTR win the whole thing and regain the tag titles, but I'm well aware The Young Bucks are going to end up becoming the champions instead. Kyle O'Reilly def. JD DrakeO'Reilly has clearly shown zero signs of ring rust since returning to the ring earlier this month. I'm glad he's getting a shot as a singles star because he's terrific and shouldn't be lost in the shuffle. This was essentially an extended showcase for him and Drake played his role well as his opponent. The Undisputed Kingdom celebrated with O'Reilly afterward, but it's only a matter of time before O'Reilly distances himself from the stable and challenges Roderick Strong for the AEW International Championship. Top Flight def. Ricky Starks and Big Bill in an AEW World Tag Team Championship Tournament Quarterfinal MatchDuring their pre-match backstage interview, Starks and Bill acknowledged beating FTR once before, so it seemed pretty obvious they would win here to set that rematch up for the semifinals. What we got from this match was fine while it lasted, but Starks getting hurt caused the contest to end early, which is why it come off so awkwardly. Here's hoping it's nothing too serious and Starks will be okay. Thunder Rosa def. Lady FrostFrost makes the most of every appearance she has on television and looks impressive every time. I know that doesn't mean anything if she rarely wins, so hopefully that next step with her will be coming soon. She and Rosa had a competitive contest, but this primarily existed to give Rosa another win ahead of her newly-announced AEW Women's World Championship number one contender's match with Mariah May coming up on Wednesday's Dynamite. Katsuyori Shibata and Blackpool Combat Club (Bryan Danielson and Claudio Castagnoli) def. The Righteous and Lance ArcherShibata seemed to form an alliance with Blackpool Combat Club two weeks ago and that was why this existed. The outcome was never in doubt, but it was fun seeing Danielson and Castagnoli team with Shibata. It certainly wasn't the most storyline-significant match, but it was an entertaining main event on the whole. I've given up hope that Archer and The Righteous are going to amount to anything as a trio, so their latest loss is hardly worth complaining about. Overall ShowLive Collision shows are always better and this episode certainly benefited from the energetic atmosphere in Canada. They started off hot with Copeland vs. Cardona, and although nothing else came close to that, it was still a thumbs-up episode. The main event, while enjoyable, didn't really matter, but the advancement in the tag team tournament was notable. More shows like this will help make Collision more consequential and encourage more viewers to tune in.
