Bryan Danielson def. "All Ego" Ethan PageThere was no real reason for this match other than to give Danielson a win before he eventually challenges MJF for the AEW World Championship, but I liked how they set it up last week and it ended up being a hell of a television match. Page has really shined on his own as of late and had a strong showing here, looking very credible in defeat. MJF watching from the luxury box was a nice touch. This was a hot way to start the show. Blackpool Combat Club (ROH World Champion Claudio Castagnoli and Jon Moxley) def. Top FlightThis stemmed from Top Flight winning the trios Casino Royale by lastly elimination Blackpool Combat Club last week on Rampage. I'm totally fine with Top Flight losing here after getting in so much offense and lasting as long as they did. This was an awesome outing with plenty of fast-paced action and terrific chemistry between the two teams. Hopefully Top Flight don't disappear from AEW TV after this because they gained a ton from this performance. FTW Champion Hook def. Baylum Lynx (Non-Title)I grew tired of seeing Hook squash local losers a while ago, but at least we're starting to see him compete on Dynamite more as opposed to just Rampage. This was designed to be a short and sweet showcase for him and to set up the post-match angle with him and Jack Perry teaming up to take out Lee Moriarty and Big Bill. Expect that tag team match to happen within the next week or two. The Elite (Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks) def. AEW World Trios Champions Death Triangle (Pac and The Lucha Brothers) in the Falls Count Anywhere Match No. 5 in the AEW World Trios Championship Best-of-7 SeriesMost of the matches in the Best-of-7 Series have blended together for me thus far, but much like last week's fifth match in the series, they did a nice job of switching it up in this one and making the most of the stipulation. They went all out and had the crowd with them every step of the way. Yes, it was a total spot-fest, but I expect nothing less from these six at this point in the series. The chaotic nature was logical with The Elite being desperate to tie it up. They'll now meet in a Ladder match with the titles on the line in two weeks. Jericho Appreciation Society (Tay Melo and Anna Jay A.S.) def. Ruby Soho and Willow NightingaleSoho and Nightingale work really well together, as do Melo and Jay (which is nothing new). There's no need for women's tag titles in AEW any time soon, but I hope both duos continue to be featured. This was good stuff from all four women. I was hoping the babyfaces would win to keep their momentum going, but I have no issue with the heels winning if the idea is to set up a rematch, possibly with a stipulation of some sort. AEW TNT Champion and ROH World Television Champion Samoa Joe def. Wardlow (ROH World Television Championship Was Not Defended)I've been looking forward to this hoss fight for a while now and I'm happy they were given the main event slot, making the TNT title feel more important than it has all year (or at least since that stellar Sammy Guevara vs. Cody Rhodes Ladder match back in January). It wasn't a barn burner by any means, but I enjoyed it and Wardlow's offense was impressive as always. An injured Wardlow passing out to Joe's submission was perfect storytelling. Joe cutting off Wardlow's ponytail afterward was unexpected, though. Darby Allin making the save for Wardlow afterward leaves me hoping we're getting him against Joe again soon. Overall ShowAEW has had a very up and down year, but they closed it on a high note with an excellent edition of Dynamite. Okay, so we still have Rampage on Friday, but this was their last show of 2022 at least. They excelled with the wrestling as pretty much everything delivered or served a purpose. Even the hype for Chris Jericho vs. Ricky Starks on next week's Dynamite was well done. I'm curious to see what this new look for Dynamite will be, but either way, AEW has an opportunity to start fresh next week and keeping the quality of the shows consistent will be key.
