IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Jon Moxley Called Out Powerhouse HobbsMoxley wasn't gone from AEW for very long, but it still felt fresh seeing him back following a brief absence. Take notes, Chris Jericho! Moxley was fired up talking about his title win and I liked how he set up a match for next week's Dynamite with Powerhouse Hobbs as well. It would have been easy to add that to the Dynasty card, but it gives viewers something to look forward to coming out of the pay-per-view. House of Black (AEW TBS Champion Julia Hart and Brody King) def. Willow Nightingale and AEW TNT Champion Adam CopelandI really liked how this was executed with Nightingale being attacked backstage beforehand, Copeland attempting to overcome the odds in her absence, and Nightingale reemerging at the end only to pass out to Hart's signature submission finisher. It made for a fun match. I hope this means that Nightingale is winning the AEW TBS Championship at Dynasty. Also, it was odd for Eddie Kingston, Mark Briscoe and the rest of House of Black to not show up at all at any point. The Elite (AEW Continental Champion Kazuchika Okada and The Young Bucks) def. Daniel Garcia, Penta El Zero Miedo and PacDidn't we see this same six-man tag team match on Dynamite a month ago except with Eddie Kingston in there instead of Garica? I know Pac and Penta have history in Death Triangle and Garcia is friends with FTR (who the Bucks will battle at Dynasty), but this was still a bit of a stretch. The crowd didn't seem to mind as they were into the action, which was admittedly enjoyable. Expect all of The Elite to leave Dynasty as champions. FTW Champion Hook Threatened Chris JerichoSorry for sounding like a broken record, but this storyline has not interested me in the slightest. Sure, it's refreshing to see Hook working with a notable name for a change, but almost everything Jericho has been involved in in recent years has not been good and this has been no exception so far. Jericho pretty much confirmed he's going heel again by pushing Taz, which led to Hook threatening Jericho and telling him he'll fight him any time. This progressed the story I suppose, so there was that. Deonna Purrazzo def. Mariah MayI appreciate that Purrazzo has remained a regular on AEW TV despite failing to beat Toni Storm for the AEW Women's World Championship at Revolution. She's been an ally to Thunder Rosa but has made it clear that she doesn't want her help. In other words, expect her to factor into the finish at Dynasty and "accidentally" cost Rosa the title. This was your average women's outing on Dynamite with half of it consisting of a commercial break. Orange Cassidy def. Shane TaylorAs dominant as he's been in Ring of Honor, Taylor isn't a threat to anyone on the AEW roster at this point with how frequently he loses. Thus, he was no threat to Cassidy here. They had a decent match that only existed to set up what we saw afterward with Trent Beretta taking out Cassidy's reinforcements as Shane Taylor Promotions laid out Cassidy. Beretta will face Matt Sydal on the Dynasty Zero Hour pre-show. Will Ospreay def. Claudio CastagnoliThis was every bit as excellent as you'd expect given the tremendous talent involved. They made the most of their time and worked wonderfully together. Ospreay will obviously be facing Bryan Danielson at Dynasty, so this was a small taste of what that match is going to be. Ospreay continues to kill it in the ring in AEW and comes off the biggest babyface in the company. Ospreay not helping out the rest of The Don Callis Family in their post-match brawl with Blackpool Combat Club should mean he'll officially be leaving the stable soon. AEW World Champion Samoa Joe Attacked Swerve StricklandI have a five-minute overrun set for Dynamite on my DVR and this exceeded that. AEW really needs to do a better job of timing their shows. That said, I'm glad we got this segment as it was a terrific final sell for the Dynasty main event (along with the separate sit-down interviews they did with Renee Paquette earlier in the episode). They kept it short and sweet, but it was effective. Joe standing tall should be a sign that Strickland is finally taking the title on Sunday night. Overall ShowThis show was a significant step up from the last few weeks. The Dynasty card sells itself and honestly might be one of the most stacked in recent AEW pay-per-view history, but it was important to properly hype it up with this episode and it was ultimately a successful effort. Moxley started the show on a high note, the two matches that followed were entertaining, and the final stretch was strong.
