Jon Moxley def. Rush in a Continental Classic Gold League Match

Moxley remains undefeated in the Continental Classic so far. I would've had him lose to Mark Briscoe in an upset that first week because it isn't necessary for Moxley to be so dominant, but oh well. He and Swerve Strickland remain the favorites to win the Gold League. The match itself was the good, hard-hitting affair you'd expect it to be with Rush being made to look credible in defeat.

Renee Paquette Interviewed Roderick Strong and The Kingdom

The consistent television time Strong and The Kingdom have been getting all but confirms that they'll be a part of the group of masked men with The Devil. They've been involved with MJF on and off for months and we're overdue for some significant development. This was a pretty standard promo from them, but it got great heat from the crowd. At least Strong finally ditched the wheelchair, but he continue to wear the silly neck brace.

Swerve Strickland def. Mark Briscoe in a Continental Classic Gold League Match

I love Mark Briscoe. I really do. But the way he's been booked in the Continental Classic so far (along with Jay Lethal) proves that it was ridiculous for him to be included from a storyline standpoint. Despite his strong performance in this match, he's now 0-3. He wasn't winning the Gold League to begin with, but now it's pretty much set in stone. Don't get me wrong, he and Strickland had a hot match that the crowd was into, but the predictability of this tournament has been a problem.

AEW World Champion MJF and Samoa Joe vs. Two Masked Men Went to a No Contest

Joe made his entrance, but the masked men surrounded ringside and it was then revealed MJF was ambushed backstage and couldn't compete. I can't say I'm too bummed that the match not coming to fruition because I doubt it would have been overly exciting, but it was interesting progression of the angle that will only lead to more people speculating that The Devil is MJF himself and his attack was staged.

AEW Women's World Champion Toni Storm def. Skye Blue

It feels like Blue has had a million matches against The Outcasts this year along with a million title shots. She hasn't won any of them, so it's difficult to take her seriously as a challenger, but she and Storm had a well-worked match. Storm was the fan favorite here, which should come as no surprise given how excellent her character has been. Riho returned afterward, so she appears to be next in line for a title shot.

Jay White def. Jay Lethal in a Continental Classic Gold League Match

It was cool that their past matches from Ring of Honor were recapped in a video package earlier in the episode. Unfortunately, that didn't make Lethal feel like any more of a threat to White here. They had a quality contest, but much like Briscoe, Lethal is only in this thing to eat losses. Putting bigger stars in their spots would've enhanced the tournament. As I've said before, I've been digging Lethal's matches not having interference, but I assume we'll see his stablemates resurface at ringside once the tourney is over.

AEW TNT Champion Christian Cage def. Adam Copeland

AEW did a wonderful job of giving this a big fight feel in Montreal. It's been almost 14 years since their last singles match, yet they delivered a top-notch main event. That said, I hated the finish with Nick Wayne's mom costing Copeland the win. It was logical and expected, but it was still lame as hell. Hopefully that doesn't mean the mom will be a regular on-air character going forward. Christian getting one over on Copeland in their first match in AEW was the right call, though.

Overall Show

We're three weeks into the Continental Classic and almost none of the outcomes have shocked me, but if you're a wrestling enthusiast, you're probably loving it. The three tournament matches this week were terrific, the main event was entertaining, and the Montreal audience was electric all night long. Dynamite has gradually gotten better the last three weeks, but I do wonder what the Worlds End card is going to look like with only two matches confirmed so far.
