IWGP Tag Team Champions Aussie Open def. Best FriendsI remember Best Friends being in the hunt for the IWGP Tag Team Championship years ago, but it's hard to believe they never won them. I didn't think they would win them here, but it was an enjoyable opener and I'll never complain about getting more of Aussie Open on AEW TV. There was a point not too long ago where they were barely being featured anywhere, but now they're having regular matches in AEW, Ring of Honor and New Japan-Pro Wrestling in addition to holding gold. They're a super talented team and deserve all the exposure. AEW World Tag Team Champions FTR Addressed the AudienceFTR officially announced in this promo that they've signed with AEW for another four years and that they intend to retire in AEW. All signs pointed to this being the case, but props to Dax Harwood for being people think with the comments on his podcast that they were considering a jump to WWE. As long as they're being utilized properly (unlike the better part of the past three years), then I'm content. This was a solid follow-up to their title win last week. Mark Briscoe, Jay Lethal, Jeff Jarrett and Satnam Singh def. Spanish Announce Project and ManscoutLethal and Briscoe obviously have history dating back to their time in Ring of Honor and Lethal has attempted to recruit him to join him, Jarrett, Singh and Sonjay Dutt. Yes, they were heels the last time we saw them on AEW TV, so don't assume their recent actions toward Briscoe are genuine. This was designed to show that they're on the same page and wasn't anything more than that. I'll always pop for a Manscout appearance, though. Taya Valkyrie def. Emi SakuraIs there a reason why Valkyrie's rivalry with Jade Cargill has been almost entirely relegated to Rampage? That tells me AEW doesn't view it as a very important program, which is a shame because Valkyrie is one of Cargill's biggest threats to date. Sakura is obviously skilled and they had a competent contest, but she certainly isn't someone most people see as being a notable name in the division. This existed to give Valkyrie a win and that's about it. The Acclaimed and Billy Gunn Attacked Jericho Appreciation SocietyThis segment started with Matt Menard, Angelo Parker and Jake Hager rapping. Yes, it was every bit as terrible as it sounds. Thankfully, it wasn't long before The Acclaimed and Gunn interrupted them by rushing to the ring and attacking them. As I've said before, this program has done nothing for me personally, but at least this was decent setup for their six-man tag team match next Wednesday on Dynamite. "Jungle Boy" Jack Perry def. Shawn SpearsSpears was such a random opponent for Perry when I heard it announced on Dynamite because we haven't seen him on AEW programming since October I believe (and before that you'd have to go all the way back to last May), but it made sense once Spears mentioned his past relationship with MJF during his pre-match promo and Perry is obviously feuding with MJF at the moment. This was a competent contest, but not main event worthy. See you in another six months, Spears. Overall ShowThey attempted to pack a ton into this one-hour show, and outside of the opener, none of it was particularly interesting if we're being honest. Was there some storyline progression? Sure, but I still don't feel like I'm missing anything if I don't tune into this show. This wasn't an awful show by any means as it did feature some quality wrestling and feuds were furthered, but as is typically the case, it was a fairly inconsequential hour.
