Big Bill and ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Champion Brian Cage Won an AEW World Tag Team Championship No. 1 Contender's Battle RoyaleWe literally had a big Battle Royale on last week's Rampage and it was much better than this because it was different than your average Battle Royale. Did we really need to crown number one contenders to the AEW World Tag Team Championship before Adam Cole and MJF get their shot on Saturday's Collision. In fact, it only made it more obvious that FTR are retaining because Cole and MJF already beat Bill and Cage a few weeks ago. At any rate, Luther and Serpentico being in this thing was comical, though the rest of this was standard stuff. I like Cage and Bill as a team, but shouldn't there have been a segment to explain why Bill isn't teaming with Lee Moriarty in AEW anymore? Komander def. Kip SabianKomander is a fun guy to watch work and fly around the ring, but he doesn't have any direction beyond that. He'll win some matches and lose some matches, but his wins and losses are so inconsistent that it's hard to care about him as a character, especially when he's beating someone as low on the totem pole as Sabian. This was a nice little match, but I'm not sure what purpose it was supposed to serve. The Kingdom def. Hayden Backlund and Myung-Jae LeeI appreciate that The Kingdom got the video package treatment earlier in the episode to familiarize AEW viewers with them, even if most of it had to do with Ring of Honor. I enjoy them as a team, but if they're going to be a threat in the AEW tag team division and not just in ROH, they need to be built up consistently with more wins like this. This was a pretty straightforward squash for them. Hikaru Shida def. Nyla RoseAs the pre-match video package touched upon, these two have history dating back to 2020 when Shida beat Rose for the AEW Women's World Championship at Double or Nothing and again later that year at Full Gear to retain the title. Rose isn't on AEW TV enough anymore to feel like a threat, but it was clear that this was designed to give Shida a win so she can challenge Toni Storm for the title this Wednesday on the 200th edition of Dynamite. It was a solid match albeit unspectacular for a main event. Overall ShowThis was the most Dark edition of Rampage in recent memory, which is a shame because the show has felt slightly more important and worthwhile as of late. The tag team Battle Royale was unnecessary and the three matches felt like they would've happened on Dark or Elevation if the show was still around. There was nothing wrong with the in-ring action, but it was an inconsequential hour that featured nothing you need to seek out.
