By Graham "GSM" Matthews Jack Swagger def. Adam Rose First off, the video package that aired spotlighting Andre the Giant and his legacy did more to make the Memorial Battle Royal feel meaningful than anything else we've seen on Raw in recent weeks (including this match between two of the bout's combatants). The match itself was just kind of there, but it was a little livelier than I expected with the crowd being into Swagger's offense. It was a nice win for Swagger, though it's obvious neither of these guys have a snowball's chance in hell of winning the match at WrestleMania. The Lucha Dragons def. The Ascension I continue to enjoy the performances The Lucha Dragons are having on the main roster and this was no exception. Like most of their matches, The Ascension was on offense for a majority of it, but it was relatively solid early on and fun in the final few minutes. The Lucha Dragons have been impressive since arriving on the main roster, but I hope to see them grace Raw and SmackDown sooner rather than later to add to the stale tag team division.

By Graham "GSM" Matthews Seth Rollins and Kane Interrupted Roman Reigns and Mark Henry While everyone involved played their role week, no one had anything particularly interesting to say. Thankfully, Reigns was kept limited here, but I was hoping for something more from him after the solid promo he cut on Monday's Raw. Everything Henry said was basically a repeat of what he said before, but at least he explained why he was teaming with Reigns tonight after getting his ass handed to him last week. Rollins and Kane were decent, but with Rollins and Reigns currently focused on other feuds, it's hard to invest in what they're doing with each other. Paige def. Brie Bella How weird was it that this match went shorter than the one between AJ Lee and Nikki Bella on Raw? Usually it's the other way around. They had a fine bout, but there's only so much they could do with the few minutes they were allotted. I'm also hoping to hear from the ladies involved in the tag match at WrestleMania as all we've seen so far is singles matches them. It's better than nothing, but they could be doing more with it. By Graham "GSM" Matthews Aerostar def. Drago in Match No. 3 of in the Best of 5 Series I've been really enjoying the ongoing series of matches between Aerostar and Drago and this was no exception. They're the perfect competitors to put on a highly electric match to kick off the show and they have a lot of good chemistry together. The match consisted more of high spots than it did an actual story, but I've been enjoying the in-ring action they've been providing so I can't complain. Big Ryck def. The Crew in a No Disqualification 3-on-1 Handicap Elimination Match They've done a superb job of building this match up to mean something whereas it would have felt like any other match a month ago. Although Ryck has a distinct size advantage over the trio, The Crew played the numbers game well and made it feel like Ryck had to overcome the odds. The elimination stipulation also added to it and dragged out the match a little longer. Since there were no disqualifications, it would've made sense for the eliminated members of The Crew to come back out and get involved, but that's just a small nitpick. Both Sexy Star and Ryck were able to get their revenge against The Crew at the end, so I'm curious as to whether if this is the end of the feud or if it'll continue. By Graham "GSM" Matthews The BroMans def. Mr. Anderson and Al Snow Kicking off the show by pairing The BroMans back up when the tag partners are supposed to be "randomly" didn't exactly enforce the concept of this show too well. Worse yet, I have no desire to see Snow wrestling in 2015. He had has a fun gimmick and all that the people were kind of into, but it wasn't over enough to justify Snow being out there. Most of the match, as expected, was total comedy, but not the funny kind. If this was going to happen at all, it should have taken place later on in the show to serve as filler, not in the opener. Truth to be told, I would have rather seen Anderson and Snow advance to avoid having to endure seeing The BroMans in action twice in one night. Rockstar Spud and Awesome Kong def. DJ Z and Sam Shaw One may argue that the involvement of a Knockout would make unbelievable that her team would win, but I actually didn't mind it. If they're going to play up the theme that anyone is eligible for the drawing, people like Kong are the perfect candidates, not people like Snow. Besides, she's a monster of a woman, so DJ Z and Shaw were up against the odds here more than Spud and Kong. I could have done without them kissing afterward since both are better when they're serious, but it wasn't the worst. On a side note, this was the first time I've seen Spud bald since getting his head shaved last week and he doesn't look half-bad. |
