Bully Ray Interrupted Chris Sabin's TNA World Heavyweight Championship Celebration This was a solid segment for the most part where everyone involved played their respective roles well. The Main Event Mafia took a bit too much credit for Sabin's victory, but aside from that, this was a decent way of kicking off the show. Sabin cut a good promo, which is crucial if TNA hopes to get him over as a big star. Bully Ray's interruption was logical as well, but his attorney looked liked a skinnier version of Kevin Nash. Manik def. Greg Marasciulo and Sonjay Dutt in an Ultimate X Match to Win the X-Division Championship There weren't enough crazy spots for this match to feel memorable, but there didn't need to be. I'd rather to see them play it safe than for them to risk anything insane, and that's exactly what they did. Manik winning the belt doesn't do anything for me, especially since we know who is under the mask at this point and the mask gimmick is unnecessary. Dutt deserves to win the title at some point, and I hope to see Marasciulo stick around as a mainstay in the X-Division going forward.

 Sheamus hits a brutal backbreaker on Jack Swagger. By Graham "GSM" Matthews
Sheamus def. Jack Swagger These two have faced off countless times in recent years, but because it's been so long since their last encounter, this felt fresh in a way. Swagger and Sheamus have similar statures and are both capable of holding their own in the ring, so this was a good match. Sheamus' leg injury tied in nicely with Swagger's Patriot Act ankle lock, which was the primary focus of the bout. Sheamus emerging victorious doesn't surprise me, but it's a shame to see Swagger back to where he was before he took a hiatus from WWE late last year. Sin Cara def. Drew McIntyre I'm not exactly sure why, but McIntyre has always managed to work well with Sin Cara. They had some fun matches on WWE Superstars last year and this bout was no different. It was only mere minutes long, but the made the most out of the time they were allotted. It's a nice win for Sin Cara, who hasn't won many matches as of late, but I'm still disappointed in both acts. Sin Cara is currently lost in the shuffle, whereas McIntyre should be back to being "The Chosen One" and should separate himself from 3MB as soon as humanly possible.  By Abiel Tesfamariam
Today in history marks a very important day for wrestling. Heck, it just might be the most important event for wrestling everywhere. This day in history marks the birth of the "Rock N' Wrestling" era in which is turned wrestling into a pop-culture phenomenon. It all started out when "Captain" Lou Albano first met a singer named Cyndi Laupher. These two ploted an project to do on Roddy Piper's show called, "Piper's Pit." On the show Lou had called Cyndi a broad. She retaliated by hitting him back and settling this in the ring choosing a wrestler to represent at a future date. Cyndi chose Wendi Richter and Lou chose current reigning Women's Champion, The Fabulous Moolah. This match was set to take place on July 23, 1984 and was dubbed as "The Brawl to End it All." This was an epic bout with a lot of storytelling. This was broadcasted on MTV. Not only that, but it garnered MTV's highest ratings up until that point. It ended when Wendi shocked the world and became the new Ladies Champion. Therefore, dethroning the “queen of wrestling”, The Fabulous Moolah.  Daniel Bryan nearly forces Ryback to submit. Daniel Bryan and WWE Champion John Cena Signed Their SummerSlam Contract After acting as a babyface last week, Raw General Manager Brad Maddox was back to portraying a heel this week, which was strange. Nonetheless, everyone played their roles well here. Cena put over Bryan in a huge way by saying that he earned and deserved an opportunity to contend for the WWE Championship. Bryan was good on the mic as well while Maddox's announcement of the main event gave the viewers something to look forward to for the rest of the night. World Heavyweight Champion Alberto Del Rio def. Sheamus (Non-title) After their lackluster feud last summer, I was not excited for this match whatsoever going into it. However, it ended up being very well wrestled and better than originally expected. Del Rio took advantage of Sheamus' injury and picked up the clean victory, which was a pleasant surprise. The fact he hooked The Celtic Warrior's injured leg was a nice touch. Del Rio has been flourishing since turning heel last month and this was another big win under his belt (figuratively and literally).  Daniel Bryan forces Wade Barrett to submit. Vickie Guerrero Was Rehired as SmackDown General Manager While there wasn't anything necessarily wrong with the segment, it didn't do much for this viewer. Everyone played their roles well, but I couldn't care less about the drama surrounding the SmackDown General Manager position. It's good to see Booker T back, but what will he do now that he's no longer in charge of the blue brand? Vickie Guerrero has been General Manager countless times in the past, so putting her back in this position is simply obnoxious and has grown tremendously tiresome by this point. Dolph Ziggler def. Jack Swagger These two have history dating back to their clash over the World Heavyweight Championship earlier this year, so I'm glad the commentators touched on that. The match was good for what it was, but I'm surprised it wasn't given more time. These two have nice chemistry with each other, so I would have liked to see them go out all here. Nonetheless, Ziggler's post-match promo regarding his breakup with AJ Lee was short and sweet. |
