![]() By Abiel Tesfamariam Today in history marks a very important day for wrestling. Heck, it just might be the most important event for wrestling everywhere. This day in history marks the birth of the "Rock N' Wrestling" era in which is turned wrestling into a pop-culture phenomenon. It all started out when "Captain" Lou Albano first met a singer named Cyndi Laupher. These two ploted an project to do on Roddy Piper's show called, "Piper's Pit." On the show Lou had called Cyndi a broad. She retaliated by hitting him back and settling this in the ring choosing a wrestler to represent at a future date. Cyndi chose Wendi Richter and Lou chose current reigning Women's Champion, The Fabulous Moolah. This match was set to take place on July 23, 1984 and was dubbed as "The Brawl to End it All." This was an epic bout with a lot of storytelling. This was broadcasted on MTV. Not only that, but it garnered MTV's highest ratings up until that point. It ended when Wendi shocked the world and became the new Ladies Champion. Therefore, dethroning the “queen of wrestling”, The Fabulous Moolah. When Wendi won, a new era started. It was called the “Rock N' Wrestlin” era. This era helped bring wrestling to a newer level. It brung in music, entertainment, and acting that brought a newer side to wrestling the fans never saw.
Without this we would have never been interested into guys like The Rock, Stone Cold Steve Austin, The Undertaker, CM Punk, or John Cena. Also, if this event would have never happened, would we have liked only plain wrestling? I think not. This is an event that needs to be greatly appreciated because not even the men could have created something so big and special that changed the landscape of wrestling. That is my report of the Rock N' Wrestlin”.
