Impact World Champion Eddie Edwards def. Rob Van Dam; Edwards and Eric Young BrawledI enjoy heel RVD, but I find Katie Forbes to be completely insufferable, and not in a good "heel heat" way, either. On the bright side, the match itself was well wrestled and RVD held his own despite looking slow at various points. Edwards carried him to a competent contest and I was glad it didn't last too long. Edwards came back out later on in the show (after some backstage vignettes and Wrestle House) to cut a promo on Young, which led to a heated brawl between them. It was solid setup for a title match next week, though I would have had their encounter take place immediately after the opener instead of saving it for later on.

Best Friends def. Demetri Jackson and Storm ThomasBest Friends never cease to entertain me. Their tag team work is consistently solid and that was once again the case here. This victory gave them an additional momentum boost, which helps considering they're currently in the midst of a rivalry with Santana and Ortiz. This was a quality opening to the show with Jackson and Thomas selling well for Best Friends' offense.
Randy Orton Attacked WWE Champion Drew McIntyreMcIntyre's promo was excellent as always, but you had to know Orton was going to ambush him after McIntyre didn't beat him with his finisher at SummerSlam the night prior. I was fine with that, but the angle itself didn't come across well at all. The punt kicks looked terrible, though part of that was because the cameras should have shot them better. Either way, it was completely ridiculous for McIntyre to get punted twice before stumbling back to his feet. I know he's the WWE Champion, but that move has taken out people for months who we haven't seen since, so the no-selling of the move was bizarre.
Kickoff Show: United States Champion Apollo Crews def. MVPMy biggest takeaway from this was that MVP brought back his old entrance theme. He used it very briefly on SmackDown in late 2010 before leaving the company, and as much as I love his original entrance song (the one he's been using since returning at the Royal Rumble), this one feels like it's a better fit for The Hurt Business. The match itself was solid but didn't need to happen as Crews and MVP already worked together a bunch before this. Crews won as he should have, but I'm pulling for Bobby Lashley to take the title from him sooner rather than later. WWE was smart to bump this to the Kickoff show.
