WWE Women's Tag Team Champions Damage CTRL (Dakota Kai and IYO SKY) def. Tegan Nox and Liv Morgan

It's obvious that Kai and Morgan are only paired together because WWE needs teams for the women's tag team division, but they do work really well as partners and I thought this was a very good match. They proved how fun women's tag team wrestling can be if WWE bothered to book the division with more importance. A masked individual attacked Nox at ringside and cost her the match, and although everyone was wondering who it was, it was revealed on WWE Digital later on to be Xia Li. I don't know why it wasn't saved for TV, but it's not like it would've mattered much anyway considering Li has barely been on TV this year.

LA Knight Attacked Bray Wyatt by Uncle Howdy

Knight has said that he isn't buying into Wyatt's supernatural silliness but continues to fall for it almost every week. Last week, he was abducted, and this week, he left the ring because he saw Uncle Howdy on the stage. Yes, the big takeaway was that Wyatt and Howdy are two different people, but I don't think that was enough of a reveal to justify this storyline being dragged out for as long as it has. People want to see Wyatt wrestle and it's clear that isn't happening until at least the Royal Rumble. I am curious who Uncle Howdy will end up being and how he'll be used, but I (along with many others) are quickly losing interest in this angle.

Intercontinental Champion Gunther def. Ricochet

Of the three matches these two have had this year, this was easily the best of the bunch. What a terrific match. I loved the video packages that played for both men throughout the night and their chemistry was just off the charts. The action was exciting and the crowd was hot for all of it. They made me believe Ricochet could win because he lost the last two times to Gunther, so props to them for delivering such suspenseful nearfalls. This was another awesome title defense from Gunther and another example of how truly talented Ricochet is.

Hit Row (Top Dolla and Ashante "Thee" Adonis) def. Legado del Fantasma (Cruz Del Toro and Joaquin Wilde) and The Viking Raiders in an Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship No. 1 Contender's Triple Threat Tag Team Match

I don't believe this was originally advertised as a number one contender's match, so that stipulation must have been added at the last minute. It raised the stakes and made the match more interesting, but this still wasn't very good. Legado shined a few different times and Viking Raiders were fine, but Hit Row had an abysmal showing. That botch from Top Dolla in particular was putrid, but I'm glad he's okay and didn't seriously hurt himself. Another issue with this match was that Legado and Hit Row are relatively new acts and Raiders were just repackaged again, so none of the three teams are actually over at the moment and therefore the crowd had no reason to care.

John Cena Interrupted The Bloodline

This segment with Bloodline was what I was looking forward to most coming into the show, and it looked likely Sami Zayn was finally getting the boot. However, I had my doubts after what The Usos said backstage earlier in the evening and the fact that Roman Reigns and Zayn were announced as partners for a tag match on SmackDown in two weeks. Sure enough, Cena popped up on the Titantron and revealed he'll be Kevin Owens' partner for that match. The rest of the Bloodline stuff didn't have a chance to go anywhere, and Zayn still isn't an official member, but at least they set up a big match for the last SmackDown of the year.

Overall Show

I had higher hopes for this show than what we ended up getting (especially after WWE writer Rob Fee said this was not a show to be missed), but it was still a great edition of SmackDown on the whole. The Wyatt "reveal" was underwhelming and the Triple Threat tag match was flat, but Gunther vs. Ricochet stole the show, the WWE Women's Tag Team Championship was enjoyable, and the Cena "appearance" at the end was a pleasant surprise. It's nice to see they've announced several matches for the next two weeks of SmackDown.
