Prince Puma Won a 20-Man Aztec Warfare Match to Win the Lucha Underground Championship
For those unaware, this match was the style of a Royal Rumble but instead of throwing your opponent over the top rope, eliminations were determined by way of pinfall and submission. That made the match more exciting in my opinion, even if some of the eliminations felt like they were rushed in the middle. Then again, there were 20 participants, so some of the eliminations had to be rushed a bit. The action was excellent, but that's not saying much since the in-ring quality of all matches on Lucha Underground are always way above average. Big Ryck and Mil Muertes were booked well throughout and their clash toward the end was very cool. Sexy Star and Chavo Guerrero were able to further their feud as well. The match coming down to Puma and Johnny Mundo was great in that these two were the same guys who headlined the very first episode of this show and it gave Puma his long awaited win over Mundo. I also really like how their mutli-man matches mean something because they don't do them very often. The addition of a championship will also make for a fresh batch of new storylines going forward.
Obviously, it's a one match show (literally), but that one match was fantastic. It was very entertaining and the time flew by fast. Everyone involved had their talent showcased in some form and fashion and it was noteworthy for the crowning of the promotion's first champion. This was a great way of kicking off the year and as someone who's been watching since the start, definitely do yourself a favor by checking out Lucha Underground. There's no better show to start with than this one.
