![]() By Graham "GSM" Matthews Pentagon Jr. def. Johnny Mundo, Taya, Fenix, King Cuerno and Ivelisse in a Six to Survive Match to Become the No. 1 Contender to the Lucha Underground Championship at Ultima Lucha 2 Pentagon seemed to be the most logical (and therefore predictable) winner of this match following his return on last week's show, but that didn't at all take away from the enjoyment of the journey. All six competitors had excellent chemistry together and a plethora of stories were told. Mil Muertes' return and subsequent attack on Cuerno seemed to be overshadowed by the end of the bout, but it still set up a logical match between them for Ultima Lucha 2. Mundo and Taya had history with Ivelisse, but nothing seemed to be furthered here with them. It was hard to buy into Fenix winning simply because he's been afterthought since losing the title a few months ago, but he and Pentagon created several suspenseful nearfalls down the stretch and had a hell of a match. Pentagon vs. Matanza Cueto is the perfect main event for Ultima Lucha 2 and I surely hope it ends with Pentagon scoring his first taste of Lucha Underground gold. Overall Show I love these editions of Lucha Underground that feature only one match. I realize it can't happen all the time, but when done sparingly, it's an effective tactic (like I always say, less is more). The elimination stipulation of the match kept things moving and needless to say, it's well worth checking out, especially considering its Ultima Lucha 2 implications. I'm not sure when Ultima Lucha 2 will be held, but I assume it will be sooner rather than later. Either way, the card is coming together nicely and I'm just excited for it as I was last year. |
