Prince Puma and Johnny Mundo def. The Crenshaw Crew

To kick off the episode, Big Ryck and The Crenshaw Crew (Cortez Castro and Mr. Cisco) introduced themselves to the audience and addressed their attack on Mundo and Puma from the week prior. Thankfully, their promo was kept short and the babyfaces interrupted them soon after, turning into a tag team match at the behest of Dario Cueto. This bout largely showcased the skill sets of Puma and Mundo and the crowd was into the action. The open to the show felt formulaic, but at least it was fun.

Chavo Guerrero and Sexy Star def. Son of Havoc and Ivelisse

Star beat Havoc one week earlier, hence the reason behind this bout. I'm not always a fan of intergender wrestling, but in this case, it made sense and all four competitors worked well together. I could have done without Chavo doing the overplayed Eddie tribute every 10 seconds, but it was an enjoyable affair, nonetheless. Havoc and Ivelisse are the better duo of the two, but the babyfaces picking up the win here tied into what would happen later on in the evening.

Mil Muertes def. Blue Demon Jr.

Muertes has always been one of my favorites in Lucha Underground, so it was cool to look back on his debut on this show. The vignette hyping up his arrival from earlier in the show was cool and I thought he came off really well here. It was a bit more competitive than it should have been, but at least Muertes' victory was decisive. Afterward, Chavo turned on Blue Demon by hitting him with a steel chair. It was a rushed storyline after Chavo began doubting himself just last week (and appeared to be perfectly fine in the tag team match), but worse yet, his chair shot to the face of Sexy Star was totally unnecessary. I understood what they were going for, but it was way too over-the-top.

Overall Show

I liked the format of debuting a new luchador in the main event and Muertes got off to a solid start in Lucha Underground with his win. However, this episode was all about Chavo and I'm not overly thrilled about that. Yes, he's established and is a veteran in the business, but this is the same guy who was losing to Hornswoggle a few years ago. At any rate, this show wasn't as strong as the pilot, but it was decent on the whole and the opener was excellent.
