By Graham "GSM" Matthews Prince Puma def. Siniestro de la Muerte Remember when they were trying to push Muerte as a legitimate threat last season? How long did that last? Catrina's not even coming out with him anymore, so it appears even she gave up on him and for good reason. At the very least, he's a fine hand in the ring and he bumped around well for Puma and his exciting offense. The commentators made mention of how Puma now has a "darker" edge to him. Is he joining the "dark side" with Pentagon Dark, too? Anyway, this was a fun little opener that furthered the feud between Puma and Mil Muertes nicely. Pentagon Dark def. Cortez Castro Uh oh, it looks like Dario Cueto is onto Castro now. I don't think the live crowd sees the segments on television like we do, so they must have been confused as hell in terms of how to react to him. But they went nuts for Pentagon and he absolutely destroyed him. His post-match promo was great and there is little question that, other than Dario, he is the best talker in the entire promotion. He said he doesn't even respect his own mother, and the fans cheered him, regardless. What a heel! The Worldwide Underground def. Gift of the Gods Champion Sexy Star and Trios Champions Aerostar, Drago and Fenix in an Atomicos Match
I'm not exactly sure what an Atomicos match is (an intergender match maybe?), but it sounded cool, so I'll take it. Both teams have worked extremely well together between last season and this season and this was another extremely entertaining matchup from them. The in-ring chemistry is awesome and there never seems to be a dull moment. I've never been the biggest Sexy Star fan, but if nothing else, the focus wasn't entirely on her. I hope one member of The Worldwide Underground takes the title off her soon, and the heels were due a victory after losing so many matches recently. Dragon Azteca Jr. def. Chavo Guerrero (Rey Mysterio Served as Special Guest Referee) Mysterio vs. Chavo was a never-ending feud in WWE for so many years, and now they're bringing their bad blood to Lucha Underground. This will likely lead to them having a million matches against each other, but I hope not. As for this match, it was pretty good and the storytelling was solid with Chavo costing himself the win by getting distracted with Mysterio. Azteca was kind of an afterthought in all of this, and part of me actually can't wait to see Pentagon decimate him like he did Castro earlier in the evening. Overall Show Once again, the hour flew by and Lucha Underground remains one of the easiest wrestling shows to watch on a weekly basis. The eight-person tag team match was really the only above-average/must-see match, but the other three matchups served a purpose and there was plenty of storyline progression throughout the night. We're only a few episodes in and I'm already enjoying Season 3 significantly more than I was Season 2. And yes, the lack of Matanza Cueto so far has definitely played a factor in that.
