KC Navarro def. WARHORSE
Whether it's MLW or AEW, WARHORSE does absolutely nothing for me, but I'm glad he's been used as an enhancement guy any time I've seen him in action. He's competent in the ring, but I just can't take him seriously. Thankfully, this was kept short and sweet and resulted in a decisive win for Navarro. We really haven't seen much of Navarro on ALPHA up to this point, so maybe this means we'll be seeing more of him going forward.
Sea Stars def. Top Dogs
Sea Stars have been regulars in MLW since they relaunched their women's division, while this marked the MLW debut of Davienne and Skylar. I haven't seen the two of them team up before, but I'm familiar with both of them from the independent scene. They had a nice match with all four ladies getting to showcase their skills a bit. Post-match, Holidead attacked Willow on commentary to further that feud as well.
Davey Richards def. TJP to Win the 2021 Opera Cup
Richards' first singles match back was against TJP a few months ago and it was the first episode of ALPHA if I remember correctly, so I liked that it came down to them in the finals. I honestly thought TJP would win because he lost to Richards the first time around and this was his third straight Opera Cup, but I'm glad it was Richards who went over in the end. They had another very good match together. It was especially impressive when you consider that the entire tournament took place on one taping, so they must have been exhausted. Hopefully Richards can continue to ride this wave of momentum.
Nothing against the first two matches, but this felt like a one-match show. MLW has done a terrific job of making the Opera Cup feel important since it started and even the final presentation of it on this show was really well done. Richards vs. TJP was a fun way to cap it off, and the first two matches were at least serviceable. We also got hype for next week's show as well which will feature an MLW World Tag Team Championship match and nZo's debut against Matt Cross.
